Just picked up a box of .223 rem match brass from Lapua.
This brass looks perfect. Necks are round and concentric. It looks to me as if they have already been "prepped". I find them very consistant in length, and they appear to not have any burrs inside the necks.

I'd prefer to work these as little as possible , as they are so concentric.

What do those of you that have used this brass, or other high end brass think of loading them as is without sizing, trimming, chamfer and deburring ?

Thanks in advance !

I would go ahead and reload them now. I use Lapua, Norma and Nosler brass and they are ready to go out of the box. If the length is within spec then you should be good to go.

Sir, FWIW, I've done the same thing with lesser brass (Winchester .223) with no ill effects and very good accuracy. I did check it over first--it all passed on my case gauge, had flash holes, and was consistent in length, so I saw no good reason to run it through the mill (so to speak). I just deburred the flash holes and called it good.

BTW, this was for 600-yard competition ammo, not just plinking stuff.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Lapua Brass

I always neck size my Lapua 308 brass first before loading !!!
Unless you check neck run-out first and it's with in spec.

Only done a minimal amount of rifle loading. For handgun brass, even new, it all needs resized. If not the bullet will drop all the way into the case!

To me it would depend on how it fits in my chamber. If it fits and has enough tension on the bullet, you should be good to go. If not, you must resize at least the neck. Also, if you are going to be shooting this out of a semi-auto, I would resize but only because of functioning issues. There may be that one case lurking in the bunch waiting to ruin your day! ;)

Not trying to be lazy about this. Neck runout is .001" on these cases. I'm worried that prepping them may increase this number.

Also, I found that the last time I cleaned and re-assembled my sizing die, I apperently did not notice the decapping rod was askew. I have re-assembled the sizing die and think it is now strait, but meanwhile I have prepped and primed brass that now has neck runout .005 and greater. I tried resizing one of those with the corrected die, and cannot reduce the runout.

With all that said, these will be run in an AR (Varmint config).
Maybe I will size one and see how runout is affected.

Thanks,
