Thanks to Skip,

I have some new warheads to send down range soon. I got these about 4 PM today, and by 5:30, they were loaded and ready for bear, hogs, deer, perps, whatever.;)

These are Skip's home cast 270 SAA bullets loaded over 9 grains of Unique. I also loaded some over top of 18.5 grains of 2400 for more serious shooting.

As soon as it gets above freezing here and we can get back out on the outdoor range, they will get run across the Oehler 35P. I'm guessing right around 950 fps for the light load, and around 1050-1100 fps for the heavier charge. We'll see.

BTW Skip,
the driving bands on these are the sharpest I have ever seen on a cast bullet. They should cut really clean holes through paper or game.

Shown here with a couple of my .45 Colt chambered S&W's- a 25-5, and a 25-7-

Looking good G4F! I hope you enjoy them. If you ever need a few more, let me know and I will send them. Of course, any game taken with them requires a portion be sent to Indiana! :)

Those are the first bullets ran through the Star luber/sizer. That thing is nice. I am waiting for some other sizing dies so I can do all of the calibers I cast. It is like eating a super rich desert after a fine 5 course meal, really special.

Those bullets came out of a MP brass 2 cavity Cramer HP style mould with the pins reversed to make solids. A very nice tool too.

At any rate, enjoy and I hope they shoot well for you.

p.s. Gotta love that M25 -7!

Very nice looking stuff. Be sure to send us a range report!! I have a 25-5 on the wish list, but will make due with my 7.5" Blackhawk until then.:)

We'll get back out to the range asap. It has been brutally cold, and very windy here as of late, and it isn't much fun shooting in this weather. I like to enjoy myself while at the range. They even shut down the outdoor range when it gets to cold and they aren't getting enough demand for it. I can't use the chrono on the indoor range, so I have to wait for a bit. I will definately post a report when we do get the chance to get back out on the outdoor range.;)

Well, it's a heat wave here! 31*F! I'm headed to the garage to cast! Worked 11hrs today and gotta work tomorrow after Church! I am going to get to shoot again one day! I know I will! For now, gonna cast up some BOOLITS! :)

OK, I am just now done. Check the time of the post. 1 hour and 20 minutes and I have 16lbs of bullets.

Take a look:
HG68andHG502hourandhalf.jpg

The ones on the left are from an H&G #68, 4 cavity mould. One of the original ones, not a copy. 7lbs of 210gr LSWC = approx. 230 bullets(boolits).

The ones on the right are from an H&G #502, 4 cavity mould. This is a 240gr LSWC with a DEEP square grease groove. It is supposed to be Elmer's bullet design for the 45AR but I use it in 45ACP and 45Colt loads. I have driven this bullet to 1800fps from a Puma rifle with no gas check and no leading! Remarkable! I got about 9lb of these 245gr bullets(boolits) and that translates to: approx. 257 bullets(boolits)

So, in an hour and a half, let's say, I got almost 500 bullets(boolits). Now, I will spend about half of that time in lubing and sizing them in the Star. I think, in most folks' mind, that will translate to cheap bullets(boolits) and a lot of them! :)

I'm pretty happy, I can tell you that!

Looks like a bunch of fun waiting to happen to me.;)

Both of those designs are highly useful. I have taken deer with the ones on the left (or a very close copy of it) from one of my 1911's. :)

Yes, but you are dead from lead poisoning and don't even know it.

Why, you could wake up dead tomorrow from it.

I suppose I could if I had eaten some of the lead!

My lead has gone down since I started casting BECAUSE I stopped shooting so many bullets, mostly plated, indoors.

If you don't inhale the fumes like that, you aren't going to get lead poisoning. It just won't happen. The metal has to be ingested to be dangerous, I don't, and you have to have no ventilation and I do.

Besides, you are going to die from something. The most important thing to remember is that you know Jesus personally so you are ready to go! ;)

Just for informational purposes.

I ran all of these boolits through the Star last night. It took right at a half hour to get all of them done. I even had to add another stick of lube during that session!

So, just for future discussion, 500 bullets can be done in around 2 hours, start to finish.

2 hours to save $50 or more? If I shot that many in a week, which I don't anymore, it would be well worth the time spent casting. If you spent $500 on equipment, which, with some of the specialty/vintage moulds I have bought, I have at least that in it, probably more, 10 weeks of casting with free wheel weights and my equipment pays for itself. If you have to purchase lead, the equation takes a little different turn, all in all though, worth it, in my opinion.

So, I guess I will continue with the subliminal messages: cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits, cast, you must cast your own boolits! :)

Smith Crazy,

Did you buy your Star directly from them? I'm looking to get one once the money is together. Right now I'm tumble lubing. I have no desire to pan lube. And everything I hear about the Star is positive. But I don't see them for sale anywhere but the Magma website. MidawyUSA, Natchez, Cabella's, and the rest all stock Lyman, RCBS, or some other brand. I just want to make sure I don't pay more than I have to when I set up for serious casting and sizing duty.

Bob,

The ONLY drawback with the Magma Star Luber/Sizer is the fact you HAVE to deal with them directly to get one. Now, it is the premier tool on the market and has been for a long, long time.

We have a thread on the forum right now about Dillon customer service. Let me say this, if you want to be disappointed with customer service, get a Magma Star Luber/Sizer. Let me qualify that statement.

For being the premier tool on the market, the ordering process is still in the dark ages. You have to call and should the order clerk be absent when you call back to check on your order, even the upper management cannot seem to locate your order for verification. If the die maker gets sick or behind, guess what, your tool doesn't come none to quick.

I ordered mine with 2 dies. A .452" and a .358". Almost two weeks later, after the sickness that spread through the plant subsided, I got the sizer with two dies, a .452" and a .356"! So, I called right away. Being as this premier tool cost over $300 with the dies, I thought they would acknowledge that they made a mistake and send another one right out free of charge. No, they would send one but it would be charged to my card until they got the other one back.

Well, a week went by so I called again. Since a week had elapsed, I had just enough more disposable cash to order a .431" die too. "Going out today!" Wait another week. Called again.

"Oh, those will be going out Monday. I was sick and got a little behind and I will make sure they get out Monday."

So, hopefully, today, they will get sent and I will be able to size up the 38 and 44 caliber boolits I have waiting for it!

Good thing I'm not in the business of casting! I could be starving right now! (I have enough blubber to make it a week or two though! ;) )

Great tool though, no kidding. If you look for a used one, you will still pay over $200 for it. Get a new one and wear it out yourself! (If it can be done!)
