Hello! Sorry this has likely been answered many, many times, but since "A" is too short to work when I tried the search function:

What does the "A" in the SKU mean, and is it important in determining if a revolver is the on the CA DOJ approved list.

SKU 170210A vs SKU 170210.

Thanks!

According to the S&W site, it's an 8 round PC M627 5" Revolver. Is that compliant w/ CA? (Didn't find the "A"...)

Thanks! That's actually my question.

The SKU on the CA DOJ list has the "A", and the S&W web site SKU does not have the "A", so does that mean it is not CA legal without the "A"?

I emailed S&W and they replied:

Subject: SKU with "A"
Dear Customer,
it means it is a california gun
If further assistance is required please reply accordingly.
Sincerely,
Mark R

So I take that to mean if the CA DOJ list has an SKU with an "A", it needs it, although it is a bit unclear.

In case anyone else has the misfortune of living in CA, the final answer is:

Subject: SKU with "A"

Dear Customer,

If sku 170210A is what is considered acceptable on the CA DOJ then the other sku is not legal. Correct.

Sincerely,

Rachel

Regretfully this seems to be more of S&Ws pissing match with the state of California?

I see 170210 pistols for sale and they are the exact same gun as 170210A.

BUT as CA lists ONLY 170210A, all the exact same guns S&W labels 170210 can not be sold in California.

The roster requires AN EXACT MATCH. S&W know sthis. SO this seems a direct snub of us CA gun owners.

Why the hell S&W would want to make a whole bunch of guns and stick a different label on it that makes it illegal to sell in CA is beyond me.

If S&W and other gun manufacturers are REALLY serious about this, QUIT SELLING OFF ROSTER TO LEO IN CALIFORNIA and actually HELP us CA gun owners instead of punishing us for **** beyond our control.

If the gun manufacturers would actually stick together and not sell ANY off roster guns to ANYONE in CA, we CA residence would quickly be seeing the roster go away.

This policy of of not selling to civilians in CA is playing RIGHT into the gun banners hands - you are doing EXACTLY what they you to do. They could not have hoped for a better outcome than gun manufacturers just not selling guns in CA. Way to cave in to the Moms demand action & Brady types.
