No you shouldnt,With this type of patent, and simpicity of design I should be good in the 14 to 18 weeks time frame,, and your right utility patents are expensive and tie things of for years. but simple design patents usually go thru pretty quickly. Alot of time is cut by the simplicty of the application also. My preamble is only 1 paragragh and 4 pages of engineering drawings with very little technical detail description.

I just have to jump in here and state that my mechanism design is nothing like the Butler Creek design. The only similarity between my speed loader and the BC one is the cartridge loading hopper, but that is already covered by prior art as defined by US Patent 4,392,321. I spent a lot of time researching existing designs and patents and a lot more time working with my attorney to write my patent.

Be cautious with your design. It sounds very similar to several others that are already patented.
