Slide closing

Chances are the slide stop was not fully in it's notch. It's not uncommon, I have several of my comp guns set up that way. But the stamped steel release of the M&P would be hard to do that way. I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

I have a M&P40c that I have run about 3000 rounds through. Sometime during the first 1000 rounds it started chambering a round if I insert the magazine fast and hard. It works every time and never fails. I can shoot 10 drop the mag, jam another in and keep shooting with out having to close the slide. It works good and I like it. I had a Gold Cup that wouldn't do that. I wish my M&P had the Gold Cup trigger.

There are a number of autos that will release the slide if you slap in a fresh mag. Seems to be more common with the polymer varieties.

I have a M&P 45 and found if I put the factory mag in stong it releases the slide, if I put it in easy it doesn't.

One of my M&P does it occasionally, the other does not. It's the nature of tolerance stack ups and part to part variation within the allowable range and nothing to be concerned about.

I see it as a desirable feature.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my question regarding the slide closing when inserting a magazine. I though I had a serious problem here. Thanks again,
Bob

Bob, does the slide close when you seat a magazine gently, forcefully, or every time?

What a great feature! Would speed up my reloads in IDPA/USPSA matches to say the least...

Why do you distrust it?

It's not going to fire itself......

I was concerned when it happened that a round could go off. Glad to hear that it wouldn't fire on it's own.
