I use Brownells action grease. There are a dozen others that work well. I live in a hot climate and shoot long strings, so I don't use oil on slides to avoid the mess. Suit yourself.

How much? Well, just enough of a layer that you can see a mark when you run a fingernail through it.

I have used Wilson's Ultima Lube for many years with excellent results. It comes in a syringe type tube that makes getting just the right ammount on the slide rails an easy task with no waste. It really doesn't take much to properly lubricate an auto pistol.

gun grease is overpriced. you can get a can of antiseize moly grease in a big can or tube that will last a lifetime at autozone for less than $10.00
Any thin grease will do the same thing on slides.
It's just marketed in syringes and as slide glide, or slide butter, ect.
All marketing. sell a little smidgen of grease at a higher price and say it's just for guns.

Tetra grease, Brownells action lube, wilson ultima, and Brian Enos Slide Glide are all top notch. Be advised any grease will cause misfeeds in cold weather unlesss you "cut" the grease with a lighter oil like FP-10. I generally blend 50-50 Slide Glide and FP-10 and it works very well in any weather.
