I'm having a few of my pistols refinished and I was wondering what the opinions are on Ionbond vs Black Nitride vs TiAIN. I don't want anything crazy, just the stock black finish. I want a durable finish that will hold up well. I'm in no way looking for the cheapest option, I want a good looking finish that will last. Any input or experience would be appreciated.

Thanks

Google "Cerekote" or "Duracoat". Supposed to be durable coatings and come in a range of colors including black.

Good Luck in your search.

I have looked into those. I want to stay away from the spray and bake finished. I want something more durable.

Black-T from Walter Birdsong is very durable. I have 2 Auto-5 shotguns done in Black-T and they look as good today as the day I had them done, almost 5 yrs ago.

Cerakote is nothing like DuraKote, it is a ceramic based spray and very tough, I have 3 shotguns being done now and plan to have the Sigma done when I get done tinkering with it. I had a shotgun done in Satin Black Cerakote last fall, hunted ducks all season, nearly 60 days, from layout blinds to a layout boat and it looked as good at the end of the season as it did at the beginning.

I have an AR-15 Performance 6.8 AR upper that has a carburized(sp?) barrel and it looks like new and it has been on quite a few pig and coyote hunts.

There are a lot of options, those you listed I am not familiar with. Those I listed I highly recommend.

So, I decided to sent my full size 9 to Scott at Springer Precision to get Ionbond applied to the slide. Anyone have any experience with his work?
