This is my first post and unfortunately it is a negative review of my otherwise perfect M&P 40.
I purchased it new in September 2011 and have since put a little over 3000 rounds through it with no major problems to speak of (the white front sight dot chipped away around 500 or so).
Last weekend at the range I emptied a magazine and the slide locked back normally. After reloading I released the slide and noticed that the slide stop levers on both sides of the frame had snapped off clean. I spoke to the range officer who informed me that he has seen it happen with other M&P 40's and to contact S&W to have it repaired.
Monday morning I called S&W customer service to process the warranty repair and was told by a surprised rep that he's "never heard of that happening before" (I found that to be odd because I saw a few other posts here on this topic as far back as 2008 not to mention the RO's experience). When I called again today to find out why my prepaid label wasn't emailed to me yet another rep informed me that my repair request was never entered in the system. She processed it (for the 2nd time) and said that I should wait (another) 48 hrs for the labels to be sent.
Is S&W aware that the slide stop issue is apparently a recurring one? Should I be concerned about the customer service issues I have experienced? I am a huge fan of this pistol and would hate to find out that my loyalty is misplaced.
