I don't know if anybody has had this or knows what it's all about.

For the last few years, the areas between my knuckles on my hands get puffy if I do too much crocheting or knitting and the tendon on the middle finger knuckle at the hand seems to "jump the track" now & then when I grasp something. Most of the time, I can shake it out but it's uncomfortable.

The other day, I picked up the dog (about 18 pounds) and not only did the tendon "jump the track", but a bruise developed under the skin.

I don't recall any injury to my hand but anything is possible. My grip strength is affected sometimes, even when writing, and it's annoying.

Thanks for any info or insights.

It is most likely repetetive stress injury coupled with the onset of arthritis.

I really do feel your pain.

When you say "jumped the track" do you mean it catches? It the problem at the joint between your hand and the base of your finger?

If your answer is yes, you *may* have a trigger finger.

I will let you know on the afternoon of April 9th how the surgery for a trigger finger works. I nmay even get to take my camera in with me.

Whatever the problem, you should see an orthopedic specialist, it will only get worse if you choose to ignore it. Ask me how I know? I just hope I get the strength back in my last 2 fingers after the surgery.

My wife has a similar condition and hers is trigger finger, as Bob R described. You also sound like you may be developing arthritus. I've been dealing with it for a couple of months. As of last Friday it was all I could do to print my name.

Sorry to hear this. The good news it the corrective surgery is reportedly an easy cure.

Over the years my wife did a lot of cross-stitching. She has had two surgeries for trigger finger and both were successful with no problems encountered. As previously stated the orthopedic Dr. is the guy to see.

Do you have diabetes? If so, your hands and feet will have more and more problems as you get older due to the lack of circulation. I have this happening and very little can be done about it other than exercising.

Actually, you need to see a Hand Surgeon, rather than an orthodpedic surgeon. No, this is not a nit-picking detail. I've had multiple surgeries to my hands and wrists including trigger finger releases. You definitely want to see a Hand Surgeon for your complaints, Barb. Find one that is board certified, and does hand surgery and reconstruction as his primary specialty. There are some plastic surgeons who will work on hands, but I prefer a true hand specialist for optimal results.

Best of luck to you,

Dave

get a diagnostic exam by a Hand Specialist for SURE!!! Until then, I'll do what I can to help out by regular exercise of anything you have with triggers. Ship them/ammo via Yellow Freight if necessary. Anything for a forum buddy!!!

As hard to believe as it may be Barbara?
Welcome to your (nearly) 50's!
As was advised above, get thee to a hand specialist. Kicked in for me about 15 years ago, due to heavier lifting involved with lower temperatures during the repetitive stress. Not to mention several motorcycle wrecks!
You don't need to share with us what the specialist says. But if you don't, your entire fan club is going to be crushed?

Now I know what it is. The middle finger on the left hand does that, no pain but if i close the fingers and then open them slowly it stays bent, I can pop it open but no pain, normally using it i dont notice anything

Same here. The middle finger of my left hand pops up while the rest of them stay curled. This happens when I'm subjected to certain types of stress -- especially while driving.

Thanks, FF. I hope it won't be my last one.

I have to ask, is there any reason why it might? I hope you are okay.
Nope, I'm not having chest pain and the blood glucose is 98. Just hoping Lee doesn't think it's over the line.
