Just picked up a 5943 with the god awful Goodyears, …er, Packmyers on it. That have to go!

Who makes the slimmest contour replacement grips for these? I see Hougue still makes wooden ones, but they don't look that slim.

I'll also take holster recommendations. No fabric though.

Thanks.

I agree on the factory Delrin stocks. I have both the rubber and a pair of wood Hogues and they are both the same.
You might also want to at least take a look at KSD Grips. They have a store on Ebay and I believe I've also seen them on Amazon. They look great and owner reports are quite positive.

This is what I do ...
Buy some wooden grips ... whatever wood strikes my fancy or is not expensive .

Install them and note where they are too bulky ... I have even drawn lines on the grips to indicate what needs to go .

Remove the wood that makes the grip bulky ... pocket knife , sandpaper , wood rasp , usually I put a sanding disc on my drill and clamp the drill in my vice ...giving me a small sander ... then sand away everything I find bulky .

Hand sand to finish , and True-Oil or Tung Oil finish .

Don't finish the grips untill you shoot the gun a few times ...
Don't remove too much wood at one time ... it's easy to remove but a bear to put back and looks like 5 miles of dirt road when you have Wood Putty stuck on the grips .

I have had to "slim down" every set of factory grips I've ever owned . Kim Ahrend was the only stock maker who made grips I could use ... nice and slim !
I've got a set of Ahrends Ebony on my AMT 1911 Hardballer that fit my hand perfectly , no slimming was required ... I miss his work .

I think the absolute slimmest grip for the 59xx series is the straight back strap S&W plastic grip. If you need those stocks to be "grippy-er", a soldering iron with a very pointy tip and some time carefully stippling the plastic will do the trick.

armorer951 - Thanks. For the price at Midway, I will get one of each and see which one I like better. Then if these don't work, I'll look at KSD, but from their pictures, they look nice but also look like they will be bulkier.

Next up, where to get a bigger or extended mag release button?!

The 5943 is a fine handgun. Good advice on the grips above.

I first look to Don Hume and Desantis for S&W Gen3 holsters because they were the guys outfitting the police when these guns hit the street.
