I have a model 10-8 3" blued not pinned HB w/round butt. I have seen a 3" medium barrel pinned w/square butt. What other variations of the model 10 with a 3" barrel has anyone to add? Thanx in advance

They have been made with a heavy (not bull) barrel, what I think you are calling the medium barrel, and also in a pinned bull barrel. There was a recent thread regarding the former, which were made in the late 1950s and mostly for overseas police. Also, Bud's Gun Shop just advertised having a number of the bull barrel model, which sold out quickly but there are supposed to be more arriving.

Saw a 3" pencil barrel w square butt in a shop here I WV that has since closed. Had a 2 piece Smith cardboard box for that barrel length. I wish I had checked it out.

These are round butts, but theolder 10-7 and older are square butts.

Those are some very interesting posts from the members. I got mine quite a while ago, in the early 80's. I got confused with the barrels between Bull and Heavy, sorry about that. Mine is SN#9D65797 it is not pinned, anyone know at what SN range they were pinned?

According to the S&W standards yours was made in 1982

The pinned barrels went away not very long before 1982, there may be a few leftovers made that year that still had one.
