Hi shooters,
I have a new ( old ) Mod17-6... so far it shoots CCI Minimag ok...Powerpoint ok, (1.5 "at 25yd )win subbies ok... but the Gecco pistol rounds made really good groups ( 0.7 " at 25yd rested ) three shots touching, BUT ... when i emptied the cylinder, the empties were really tight in there, had to whack the ejector rod to free them ( carefully) ! All other ammo ejects as normal... does this show that the Gecco is larger in the case ? and therefore the projectile too is larger , giving the better accuracy ?
Any other ammo i could try for pinpoint accuracy ?
Thanx folks, Ant

It could be the ammo fitting tightly in the chambers is moving less with firing, or it could be the bullet being more closely matched to the rifling of your particular gun, or a bunch of other variables. I think the take-home point is (if possible) to stock up on the ammo it likes, especially if you can find more of the same production batch. Also, if you have not already done so, try cleaning the chambers really well and see if the Geco (sp?) empties still stick. Hope this is helpful.

I have a 18-2 and a 17-1 that I enjoy shooting. Both are exceedingly accurate with a variety of common .22 LR loads. Some brands of ammunition give excellent results and eject easily from the cylinders. Other brands give equal accuracy but eject less easily. If I want to use these brands I simply include in my range bag a 4" cleaning rod with a small .22 LR phosphor bronze cleaning brush. Used occasionally during a afternoon at the range precludes any problems with chambering or ejection. For carry/firing in the woods/fields I use the various loads that are not problematic in chambering or ejection over long strings of fire. HTH. Sincerely. brucev.

I shoot standard velocity 40gr. ammo in my K frame rimfires.
It seems to give me good groups and easy extraction of the empties.

Remington Target ammo is a good choice, Eley Sport is not bad either.

Of the half dozen different choices tried to date, the CCI mini mags 40 gr. are the best out of my two model 17's and a Colt New Frontier.

Same here with my 17-3. 40 gr. Standard Velocity Mini Mags. Clean burning too.

CCI Standard Velocity and CCI Mini Mags are two completely different ammo number.

40gr Standard Velocity = Part #0032 1070 fps
40gr Mini-Mag = Part #0030 1235 fps
36gr Mini-Mag = Part #0031 1260 fps

I also like the CCI Standard Velocity ammo for target use.
