Guys, I'm hoping you can answer a question for me. A guy at work told me he has a 6" .357 blued that he would like to sell. I asked him what model number and he said it was a 626-1. I'm not real knowledgeable of S&W revolvers, but I can't recall that model being made. He said it was his father's. I'm assuming it's a model 27-1? He was certain of the "-1". Is there another model it could be?

Assuming the gun is in good shape, what would be the value? Also, is there anything I need to look for that would make it more valuable? Thanks.

No model 626. The "6" prefix generally means its a stainless gun. I would be inclined to think it is a model 27, 28 or 19. If its a 27-1, you found a real jewel.

I wouldn't want to assume 626-1 means 27-1. Take a look at the gun and confirm the model. Then spend a little time on-line researching that model. Good luck.

I'd guess it's actually a 686-1. Either poorly marked or miss read.

I would probably guess a 686 in Midnight Black finish. A somewhat limited run gun itself, another clue might be if it has a full lug barrel or not.

My guess would be a blurry or mis-stamped 586-1, which would be a blued gun. Agree we need photos to be sure.

I've not seen the gun myself. He is supposed to send me pictures tonight. I just wanted to start research to see what I could possibly be dealing with.

So he confirmed the model number.....27-6. He sent me a blurry picture but it looks like it may have some minor wear around the edges of the cylinde from holstering. What is an approximate valrue of this thing? Thanks.

It looks to be the last regular production variation made in 1993-'94, and only in 6". Hard to guess a value since I've never seen one for sale, but around $500 sounds right.

So the gun's lock up was tight, timing was spot on, rifling was good, cylinder gap was perfect, no discernible end shake, but there was some bluing wear on the end of barrel and on the fluting on the cylinder (typical revolver holster wear). There was no box, but did include a nice leather holster. Total price was $350. I know..."pics or it didn't happen". I apologize for the cell phone picture (wife has the cameras tonight).
