I have a 586 -3 with a 4'' barrel that looks like new but has the fireing pin in the hammer so it is an older one. Am curious to know when it was made. The serial # is BHH3700. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Should be 1991. Probably between March and July.

Did your gun come with the box and papers? I just got one and I'm trying to figure out if I have the correct papers.

Year of manufacture?

Just bought a S&W 586-3 with a 4'' barrel. It has the firing pin in the hammer so I know it is a older one but it is in new condition. The person I bought it from got it from an estste sale and only had it a short time so really had no info. This is the serial #BHH3700. I would really appreciate if someone could tell me when it was made.

Thank You,

Benson.

Thank you very much. I did not get a box or papers only the gun. Thought I posted in the wrong forum so I posted this question twice. Sorry for any confusion.

Welcome to the Forum! You should love the 586! I have a 586 no dash from 1983. They are great shooters. I shoot mine better than my other 4 inchers. Bob

All -3's and -4's (and all previous) came with the firing pin on the hammer

I am looking at the same model in similar condition for $599. Do you mind me asking what you gave for yours?

My cost.

I paid $525.00 for my 4'' one. I also bought a 586 -3 with a 8 3/8'' barrel and the ajusable front sight from a 80 year old. Says he is original owner and bought it in 1986. Now he says he only shot it once when he bought it, 1 box 50 shots but said it is to heavy for him so sat for 25 years unused. When I saw it I could not believe it, the blueing is as shiny as chrome and still has the original big wooden grips on it. I have never seen a gun look any newer. I gave him $600.00 right on the spot. I live in Canada so these prices are not out of line here. Shot them both today for the first time and all I can say is wow, real beauties.
