Smith 617 8/3/8" six shot, price check...

I don't have any pics to post, saw it briefly the other night. It's at least 97% condition, no box. What is a fair price for this?? Thanks!


He also had a 586 with 8/3/8" barrel, but that was about 90% condition... thoughts on that dollar wise??

This has the smith logo on the rubber finger groove type grips, which owner said were on the gun new when he bought it??

Yes, 617s and early 617-1s still had the wood stocks but later ones and beyond usually had the rubber stocks with logo.

Figure about $650-700 for the long 586 as you describe it.

1k seems high with no box and docs.

1k seems exceptionally high with goodyears.

Start at 700.

Price seems high but I'm not sure how many 8 3/8 inch no dash 617s were made so that may be a factor. Without the combat stocks the $700 mentioned above seems a good starting place for price negotiation. For a price point comparison I acquired this early 617-1 (no box) earlier this year for $900 which at the time I thought was on the upper end but it and the combat stocks are in great condition. I wouldn't think that at all. The most valuable versions of the factory 617s are six shot.

I would look at online "completed auctions" with selling prices for hard data. I don't track these specifically but I don't think you'll find the recent average selling price at $700. Your local market conditions and how badly you want it factor into the value.

Apparently 3 1/2 lb. .22 revolvers have quite a following, to tame all that nasty recoil.
