A fellow member here on the board was gracious enough to employ me to take his sad re-imported 64 and make it awesome. This gun looked like it was kicked down a concrete stairwell and had a sad DAO trigger and awful heavy 4" barrel. . .all that is better now. It wears a beautiful set of stock that I fit and refinished, a barrel borrowed from a Model 12 Airweight, and a good action job, checkering on the backstrap, hammer blended in smooth, opened up rear sight slightly, Cerakote finish, and some laser engraving to pay homage to the owner's service. Enjoy fellas!

This looks really good!
Please forgive my lack of knowledge. I have heard of "opening the rear sight", but I don't know what this is exactly. How is it done? Could you show a photo of the sight?
Thanks for your time.

I like to widen the notch and the pocket on defense revolvers, find it faster to pick up the front sight, tons more pictures of project's I am working on, and loads of in progress pics of this gun if you guys want to follow me on Facebook keyword Karl Beining , just send a request

Done on a mill with carbide end Mills

Karl,

Thanks for sharing. Having recently acquired an index mill, I am keenly interested in learning about their use in handgun mods.

You project came together quite well. Is that 64 your EDC? I have been working on scaring up the courage to modify a snub 64 that I have for that very purpose (an I am a big fan of the Fitz style)

I like the way you "blended" the frame to the thinner barrel. As perfect a carry revolver as there ever was. Great job!

Wow that is a Model 64 perfection>>
May I ask what would a job like that cost?

That will depend on a lot of variables, what we start with gun wise, if a barrel swap is part of the job they sometimes (rarely) the new barrel will thread right in and the sight will time up and barrel gap is good, but most times there is some machining and fitting to be done. Also what finish you want applied, Bluing, Cerakote, Hardchrome, brushed/polished stainless are all different prep and charges. But I would say ballpark for this kind of job, most will fall into the $500-800 range plus parts, and that number can double if there's a lot of other add ons chosen, but this gun is basic, all business.
