One of S&W's finest revolvers. Introduced in 1955 as the S&W Model 1955 45ACP Target rev, it was renamed the S&W Model 25-2 in 1957. It continued in production until 1999(?).
It is a continuation of the original 45 ACP revolver, the S&W Model 1917 and is rifled to shoot hardball ammunition or handloaded equivalent. Lead can also be quite accurate if sized to the cylinder throats.
I like them, a lot.

25-2s are great revolvers, and a lot of fun to shoot! Mine (s/n N139297) is a little earlier than yours, ca. 1973. It often goes to the range with other .45 ACPs like my Model of 1917. The M&P 45 in the photo was recently replaced with a M&P 10mm 2.0...but that's for a different section in the Forum. Enjoy that 25-2 and shoot it often!
