Hello Everyone!

I have been regaining fund's and finally picked up something I think I can live with..... I need some information on this I believe this is a Lew Horton 29-3...... It does not have box or papers and the grips are a little beat up...... Serial number is ALB56XX and says E23 47X41 underneath.....

Are the grips original?
Is this a Lew Horton?
born date?

Thank you in advance

There was 5000 Lew Hortons produced, however there was some overrun guns that were sent to other distributors and I don’t have that number, but you had pretty good odds of it being a Lew Horton i’m sure some guy will come along with the more information.

well that sucks if its not a Lew Horton

How can I find out if this is a Lew Horton model? Is there any special markings or serial numbers that coincide with a Lew Horton Model

I am not quite sure, but there is somebody to contact that used to be a secretary at Lew Horton. I believe somebody will pipe up and tell you just be patient. There’s a lot of all-knowing people here.:D

Based on the serial number prefix your revolver was most likely manufactured in 1985. Those Factory Combats would be the correct grips for the firearm

The thing for you to do would be to call Smith and Wesson and provide them with the serial number. They can then tell you the product code.

Product Code 101224 would be the Lew Horton order

"E23 47X41" are assembly numbers and do not shed light on anything.

There is a former Lew Horton employee that has possession of LH's records and is selling letters for a fee

The serial number is ALB 560x..... I did see a Lew Horton on Lock Stock Barrel from 2011 with the ALB prefix as well as the E23 stamping..... I plan on shooting this will 44 special!

I believe that your 3" Model 29-3 is indeed part of the Lew Horton shipment of 5,000 revolvers in 1984-85. I base my belief on the fact that I have been trying to buy one from my son's boss (who owns a local gun store) for a while now...unsuccessfully so far! That one is an "ALA"-prefix revolver from 1985, and the original box label shows PC 101224 which is part of the LH order. Your "ALB"-prefix is also from 1985, and I'm sure it's also a LH. However, as markeb says, send an email to Susan at LH and she should be able to confirm. Nice pickup, and good luck!

Nice piece. I have no experience with identifying a LH, but I’m actively searching for a 29-3 myself. Best of luck!

My 29-3 Lew Horton Special is also in the ALB56XX range and is a verified Lew Horton Gun. The late Earl Minot verified it for me as did Susan Lorusso plus I ordered a letter from S&W Historical Foundation which also verifies it.

U did good at that price. Email Susan and she will respond telling you if it’s a Horton or not. You then have the option of buying a letter. I forget the price. She verified a 686 for me not long ago.

What’s the going rate for these? I picked mine up for $1000 with the holster

I think you did very well. I've seen them sell for $1500, and up to $2K with the original box. I expect to pay $1800 if my son's boss will ever sell his to me! He's also got a 3" 686 CS-1 with original box that I'm working on, too.
