My local shop just got a Smith and Wesson 629-3 Classic five inch.

Its in its original blue box, S&W Hogue rugger grips, all the papers.

The gun is nice . About 98%. Tight lock-up and perfect timing.

I have it on hold till SAT.

They want about 850.00 OTD.

They said that they made less of them with five inch barrel.

Did 5 inch 629-3 Classics go up that much ?

How do they compare to regular 629's of the same era?

One of two 629s I own is a 629-4 Classic 5 inch.
It has the interchangeable front sight system and the endurance package.
That and the 5 in. barrel make it a winner in my book.
I put a pair of smooth magnas on it and a tyler t grip and it looks sharp,
I paid 700 just the gun with rubber grips probably a year ago.

If you want to own the gun certainly make your best deal and take it home.
The price will long be forgotten amid the good feeling of owning such
a 'classic' piece of stainless art.

I have to be reminded from time to time, gun values have not so much
gone up, the value of the paper dollar I am buying that gun with has gone down.

A bag of Wise potato chips is $3.00. I stopped in the supermarket
the other day to ponder.
Quantity has gotten smaller on goods while prices have risen.

So, no, I do not think $850 is too much to pay today for a beautiful
all forged parts 5 inch 629 Classic that you will own the rest of your
life and pass on to your son someday.
A new one will cost you 900 to 1000 if you can find one .

If the $$ won't break you , buy it.

Good luck
Allen

The 629-3 with 5" barrel is not seen too often and they are great guns. I bought one used maybe 15 years ago and I have never been sorry. Frankly, I think it is an ok price for 629 without the lock and MIM parts. You will be hard pressed to find another one at that price, especially if you look for a year or more.

Oh, by the way, I forgot to add that I liked it so much I bought each of my sons one just like it.

I just paid $880 for a 6 1/2" dash 3 DX. Many here say I got a very good deal. I would say your price is right in the ballpark. The longer barrels may give slightly better ballistics but IMO the 5" just looks right. Plenty of barrel for shootin also.

With the way prices keep rising on quality built revolvers you can't go wrong. That's not a terrible price at all and with the original box and papers as a bonus I'd go for it.
