From the collection of Wayne Hazelrigg and displayed at the annual meeting of the S&WCA in Charleston, SC in 1993. N875528 was cut by S&W from 8 3/8 inches to 5 inches. No other 5-inch 629 exists as far as we know. I acquired this 629 about thirty years ago when the Hazelrigg collection was sold through various dealers. Click on the photo for a better look.

Doc 44, Sir, in your post this morning you state that you have the only 629 that is 5 inch. I have a686-3 in 5 inch that is new that I have has for at least thirty years. I bought it new from a gun store in Michigan. It has rubber Hogues on it as it came from the factory. I have 44's in all legnths and this one just filled out my collection. Sn is -BKF 1664. Your thoughts please.

Any pics Cpt Hornet? Does yours have the full underlug? If so those were and continue to be a regular offering.

Doc44’s just has the ejector shroud rather than full barrel underlug.

Edit to add: I also remember watching a youtube video where Ken Hackathorn is showing and discussing some of his revolvers with Bill Wilson. Among them is a 629 that he sent to Smith to have a 5 inch barrel installed, not full-underlug.

Captain Hornet...I should have been more specific. The 44 Magnum I posted is the only known Model 629 with a 5-inch barrel. I realize many 29s and 629s (29-4s, 629-2s, etc. Classic and Classic DX revolvers) with full lugs and 5-inch barrels came long after this one was shipped in 1981.

Engine49guy...there are two pins securing the ramp base to the barrel that are polished flush and are barely evident. Like what was used in the 50s and 60s to secure the ramp base to the barrel. The red ramp and ramp base are a single piece.
