A coworker of mine showed me the Smith and Wesson Governor! I think I'm going to get one when they are released. .410, .45 LC and .45 ACP! Also has a 6 shot cylinder with a scandium frame instead of a 5 shot like the Judge.

Seriously? Why?

What purpose would this revolver serve for you? I am curious (trying hard not to be a prick) and would like to know. The .410 is a terrible self defense round. There are better revolvers in .45 ACP and .45 LC!?!

Please help me understand.

To each his own. Lot's of products out there that people buy that I don't understand, but my tastes won't be for everyone, either. If it works for you, go for it. I'll pass.

You'll probably get a lot of negative responses, considering the high regard most here have for more traditional S&W offerings, and especially considering some of the design and construction changes over the last few years that are almost universally taken as negatives.

But for the sake of S&W, I'm glad that someone actually wants to buy one of them. Plus, you may have one of the next S&W collectibles from this generation!

I don't want the Governor for self-defense, I have another pistol for that. I want this just for shooting and carrying in the woods as a snake gun. Down here on the bayou snakes are kind of a problem. And the fact that I can shot .45 ACP out of the Governor out of this one sells ot for me over the Judge since .45 ACP is cheaper than .45 LC. So I guess you can say I just want it as a fun gun plain and simple and no other reason.

S&W obviously saw Taurus making a ton of money off these and decided to get in on the game. Smart business move even if their core fans don't like it.

To each his own I say. I'd like to shoot one sometime but don't think I'll ever spend hard-earned cash on one.

I'll hold off on "Judging" the S&W until I can see one.

I only hope they use the same moon clips as the 625 - if not, I doubt I'd have any interest.

Just my $.02

Looks like something that'd be fun to shoot, but personally wouldn't spend my hard-earned money on it. For snake purposes in a revolver... couldn't you just get snake rounds in 38sp and 357mag?

I have never been a fan of the 410/45Lc revolvers. The look to blocky and thrown together to me. I just dont really see a use that hasnt been filled already for them.

I guess they might work OK for a snake gun, where the "use enough gun" principle is a universal truth as well as absolute requirement.

CCI makes a pretty decent 44 Mag or 45 Colt shotshell load and although a 410 contains more shot they are known to throw pretty decent patterns because of the capsule approach. And, you can also have it backed up with something in the 300gr/1300fps range in case it is a big snake !

Big is proportionate to relative distance and size using this mathematical relationship:

[Snake(big)= size (inches) X 1/distance (yards from your leg) X 10 E^species (who really cares!)] / [Gun (size)= caliber(bigger) X number (shots)] + constant (backyard =1, woods=3, boonies=10, bayou=100)

I know of 4 people where I work that have bought the Taurus Judge. I, personally, don't care for it.
Too big and bulky and , to me, over priced.

I've shot alot of the CCI shot shells over the years . If you sand down the capsule nose so it's thinner the patterns are alot tighter.
The thinner nose helps it open up alot cleaner .

Grab a box of 2 1/2" .410 #8 skeet loads...You will be surprised at how well they work on snakes!! If in rocks though...DO WEAR safety glasses!! The Judge is a hell of a snake gun...the Gov will prove to be as capable.

I do not like the governor because it is a scanduim piece of junk in my own opinion and it has that damn ils lock on it

It's pretty sad that so called "S&W fans" are gonna bash on people for wanting to buy a new S&W product:confused:........way to show support for a US gunmaker:rolleyes:

If you don't like it, don't buy it. No need to talk down on someone else for wanting to buy one. Maybe he's got a use for it, maybe he thinks it's just neat.

Ask yourself, do you own any guns you don't "have a need" for? I sure as hell do....how many of us have bought a gun just because it has "cool factor" for us........maybe the OP just wants a .410 revolver made by a quality gunmaker........ Pretty hippocritical to be on a S&W forum, as a S&W shooter or collector but then tell people not to buy new offerings because it's a "piece of crap".

I get tired of hearing all these people squawking about "S&W going downhill" but then, do nothing to help matters by crapping all over new products for no valid reason, the damn Governor hasn't even been introduced yet, everyone who proclaims it "crap" hasn't even seen one in person yet, let alone own or have fired one, but you will swear it's a piece of garbage........truly amazing.......

I know i am new to the site and have been enjoying what it has to offer so far, but if I had to wait to find a purpose for every gun that I have bought over the years i would have three guns. A shot gun, hunting rifle, and a carry gun. I don't think that the new Governor is going to change the firearm industry by any means. That being said I have guns that I have never even shot before, or have ANY purpose for having other then the fact that it was a gun that I didnt own when I found it.

I know that most of you are die hard purest of S&W but for us underlings and people with multiple interests in firearms might be interested in adding a Governor to the safe. In a side note if Smith and Wesson's next Governor will hold 45 acp, 45 lc, 410s, and work as a remote on my tv i will probably want to own one of those also..........

I hope S&W makes and sells a bazillion of these things and becomes the richest manufacture in the history of the world. They just won't be selling one to me.
