Can anybody help me with locating a Smith and Wesson derringer for my uncle? He has memories of a .38 that HIS uncle used to carry everywhere he went, and he'd like to locate another. All info appreciated!!

Smith did not make a derringer. A picture of what you are talking about would be helpful. Perhaps he had a a .38 Single Action Revolver.
I see that Guy beat me to it ...

Thanks, fellas...he wasn't sure that it was actually a Smith. Sometimes the memory plays tricks on you.

I have seen those "Bicycle guns" before...used to have a Colt "Cop and Thug" in .32 cal, as a matter of fact, which I think is similar to what you're talking about. Thanks to both of you for your expertise!!

Is it possible he had a derringer made by another company, but the caliber identified on the gun as ".38 S&W" or ".38 S&W Special"?

That happens often with other styles of handguns not made by Smith & Wesson--people see the caliber roll-marked on the gun and draw the wrong conclusion.
