I did a straight across trade today at a local gun show.

Trade this:

Good trade.

There's lots of Smiffs runnin' around but there ain't many Colt's with that kind of character.

Well, sitting here in front of my computer with my Colt and my Smiths, I could think of several reasons why, if I were you, I might have made such a trade.

Setting aside a few of them (like I was drunk or I was temporarily insane) I was wondering exactly why you did that particular trade?

I know you must have a good reason or you wouldn't have posted the photos of what you gave up for that late model Agent.

So, why?

I have several other very nice J frames, and even after a $60 trigger job, that M60 just wasn't as smooth as I wanted. Don't know why, but it had the worst action of any Smith or Colt I'd ever owned. Gary Dean did his best and apologized when I picked it up.

If I'd kept it I would've put another $200 in for CT grips. I just would have.

And I got a really good deal on that M60. I was into it RIGHT.

Soooo....I wanted another Colt to mess with and, perhaps, make a car gun out of.

And I was breathing gun show ether at 10am this morning.

Regardless of what turns other's individual cranks . . . if you feel good about the trade, then congratulations and more power to ya !

That's one reason they make so many different ones, 'cause we all like what we like.

I go through the "For Sale" ads and many times wonder - "what were they thinking ?" and then realize - been there done that at one time or another.

Enjoy your Colt. Life's too short to drink bad whiskey, buy what someone else thinks we should have, and second guess every decision we make.

Well, doc, you got it, so you might as well enjoy it.

On the Concealed forum, there's a thread about carrying Colt DSs and lots of photos of DSs, Cobras, etc.

My photo, which is real small (don't know why) is of one which started out a little better looking than yours (OK-a lot better) and I let Karl Sokol work on it. He really did a great job of making it look good, shoot good and did it all for a lot less money than I expected and the turn around time was great, too.

You might google him and call him to talk about yours.

A New Model Agent can sometimes use the same speedloaders as a K-frame S&W, and it can certainly use a limited amount of +P ammo. While I use standard-pressure ammo in my original Agent when I carry it, it is nice to know that there is absolutely no danger in loading it in an emergency with my K-frame loads (158gr +P).

Even where the above doesn't matter, it has six rounds vice five. It all comes down to how the individual guns feel and shoot. My Colt D-frame .38 Specials (three) are not particularly accurate (less so than my S&W J frames), but I doubt that that implies any general rule.

I like BOTH Colt's and S&W's. Both are good revolvers and I would be happy with either. Once a deal is done there is no point to second guess yourself. I have found that only leads to feeling unhappy. Enjoy it!

I had an old Colt P.P .38 Spec. Like to broke my middle finger knuckle every time I touched off a round. Tried a different set of grips. Nothing worked. Saw a nice S&W Model 38 at our local gun shop, traded for it & am very happy. No more knuckle sores. Nice carry gun.

The Agent is baking in the oven this evening. What the hell, I'm trying this "DuraCoat" thing.

Taped off the hammer and trigger, airbrushed the rest.

If I don't like it, I'll blast it off and do something else.

Right now I'm shopping for black friction tape for the grip.

OHHH....and I shot it for the first time today!

What a fine little hand cannon it is.
