Took my Model 13-3 to the range this morning. I didn't have any .357 ammo on hand so I used up some .38's. Very fun to shoot, more accurate than my last Model 10 (which was also a heavy barrel). I can't wait to do a trigger job on it!

Nice gun and nice group, David. Was your point of aim the bullseye, or were you holding a 6 o'clock POA?

Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Question?

What are those grips and where do you get them, please?

Thanks!

The grips are Uncle Mikes. They came with the gun. Do you want them? I am going to be replacing them with wood in a week or so, and if you are interested, they're yours. I would much rather have wood grips.

I've had a Model 65 for the last 28 years- just a stainless Model 13! (I was going to buy a 13 as my first duty gun, but they were out, so I bought the 65.) I also prefer wooden stocks. I have had Herrett's Shooting Masters (smooth, with finger grooves) for as long as I've owned the gun. Even bought a spare set years ago!

I'll take them. Please e-mail me if they are still available.

Dave, not trying to be a buzz-kill, but why weren't your holes in the very middle of the target????? Hey, that's the question I always get!

Just Joking! However I do have a serious question; what were you using as a hand rest? I've got two revolvers that I need to do a rested test with and I've never done it. (When I was young I could trust my eye, my steady hand and sheer concentration to prove something out...all of that is gone!) Can I use a sandbag or what? I don't want to leave my inheritance to Midway USA if you get my drift!

I used a rest that I made myself about 10 years ago. I probably will be replacing it with a commercial soft rest soon. I have used a sandbag a couple of times, but you may have to stack a couple of them on top of one another to be able to get the height you will need. (I shoot better from a rest when its about 10 inches or more from the heigth of the bench itself.

That gun will shoot groups that tight without a rest, I bet. I've had some that did.

Many underestimate the S&W fixed-sight guns.

Almost any k frame fixed sight .38/.357 if loaded with 158 grain bullets will shoot POA/POI better than I can hold. The key is that bullet weight, it seems to me. That's a great gun. I love my model 13, too. John

I agree. My 13-3 3" loves 158gr GDHP's and also groups 135gr GD Short Barrel ammo close enough to same POI.
What's not to like?

Here's a pic of my first Model 13. It's a 3" re-import from France that was pretty beat up finish wise, but it locks up tight. Probably never fired, but dropped quite a bit since surrendering is the French national sport, isn't it?

I had Karl Sokol of Chestnut Mountain Sports rework it for me. I gave him a list of what I wanted to be done and turned him loose with the rest.
