i've been looking for a 39 or 439. during this i noticed the 59's and 459 are alot cheaper. did they have any problems that i don't know about? thanks.

I had a 459 and it functioned perfectly, however, I was not a fan of the adjustable sighting system, and straight backstraps--obviously personal preference issues. I did try to find the optional arched backstrap for my 459, but they are next to impossible to find. I ended up selling mine to purchase a 5906, which I find extremely accurate, plus have added Crimson Trace Lasergrips.

The 459 is a great pistol that you won't regret buying. I think the price difference comes down to production numbers. While the numbers aren't really published, there are a lot more 459's out there then the 2nd generation 39 series put together. The 459 was used by a lot of police departments and civilians (as opposed to the 439 series which was mainly just civilians) and holds more rounds with out being too much bigger. If the extra size doesn't bother you this is a great advantage. All of that being said, I do like the grip angle on the 39 series slightly better, but both are very comfortable guns to shoot.

I like my 459. I put a slip-on hogue grip on it, and it feels great in my hand. I like the gun just as much as my 5906. I like the huge front sight on the 459. It is good for fast target acquisition. I painted the front sight white.

thanks guys, that's what i needed. now maybe i'll get a 459 instead of a 439. whatever the economy will allow me to do.

You should get the one that's grip feels better in your hand. The 459 has a wider grip because it's a double stack magazine. I have big hands and usually pistols with double stack magazine feel better in my hand.
