Very nice m1917. Now, you need to buy original accoutrements for it. Do not put it into a holster. Get a lanyard, a ammo pouch and some original clipped ammo. I have a mint 4 digit M1917 that I am very proud to own.
Do you mind me asking what that treasure set you back? It sure is a nice one. Thanks for sharing. Big Larry

That's a beautiful example of an S&W M1917 in original finish, as mentioned above it's just missing the accouterments to complete the package. No WWI collection of military arms is complete without one. I can't offer you much information but you have a great example of a very desirable gun. I'm sure other more knowledgeable forum members will be along to fill in the blanks.

What an entrance! That is about as nice an example of the 1917 as I’ve seen in years. It will be fun to shoot with half or full moon clips and 45 ACP or like a “regular” revolver with 45 auto rim ammo. Congrats on a super find.

Or, it is a really great shooting firearm. .45ACP, with half moon or full moon clips. Can also be used without clips, you just have to manually eject each case with a pencil or like implement.

Much nicer than mine! These are surprisingly fun to shoot given how heavy they're sprung.

New unfired 36 is great but I don’t believe it can top that 1917. It’s a beauty.

i will have to check i took them off to wipe the gun down but never looked there was a note taped in the grip from a person that owned it in the 60's it said thinking its the guy's dad ibought it from

i bought it and a model 1950 44 special like new in box and a colt 455 eley the colt was refinished though but he wanted $2500 for all 3 didn't argue sold the colt and now im sitting around 1500 in both smith's.
