I'm going to est. 1888 to 1889. The 1st Model was made 1888 to 1902. I'm guessing yours was either 1st or 2nd year of mfg. These are neat little handguns, I just found a 1st Model myself recently to add to a 2nd and a 3rd model for a set. My 1st Model is a 1711X and shipped June.1890. I have fired my 3rd model, and once you overcome the trigger they are surprisingly accurate.

The triggers are designed as a safety feature...they get easier as you progress. The New Departure series was designed to be "child proof" to decrease accidental shootings.

I am always amazed that there are so many of them still in good working condition...they might show finish wear, but many of them still work like new...after all these years.

I know where there is a .32 New Departure for sale locally....maybe I should take a closer look at it.
