I have acquired possession of a 22-32 that has a broken hammer spur. I am unable to locate a suitable replacement for this gun being that it is so old. I've tried the usual websites like Numrich to no avail. Can anyone steer me toward a suitable replacement and a website to order it.

In the event that I am unable to locate an actual 22-32 hammer, would a hammer off of a Model 43 or 63 fit it?

This common enough damage has been discussed before here. You might want to take a look at the following thread: http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-ha...heavy-frame-target-bekeart-type-pictures.html

We'd certainly like to see some photos of your gun, posted either here or there.

To answer your question, the Model 34/43/63 hammers are not going to be a drop-in replacement, and frankly, I'm not even sure they could be made to work.

You may want to contact David Chicoine. His email address is: [email protected]

The bobbed hammer on the .22/32's is a fairly common occurence. Not sure if this was a result of droppage or was just one of those odd changes that was popular for this model. I own 4 .22/32 revolvers and one does have this modification. The serial number is 163467. I wonder if there are more from this time frame or if they are scattered throughout production.

Good luck in the hunt. Some of us have been looking for replacement hammers for a prewar .22/32 for years. I am almost ready to settle for a centerfire prewar I-frame hammer, which are occasionally available. I would pull the hammer nose and fill up the slot in the hammer face to make a solid-body unit of the type needed to operate the frame-mounted firing pin.

You could also try Poppert's Gun Parts in Pennsylvania. They did not have a 22/32 hammer the last time I checked with them, but their supply changes.

Hard-to-find gun parts sometimes show up on Gunbroker, but you have to keep looking on a regular basis.

What David said. I have a marginal 22/32 that I had thought of parting out (and sending the hammer to David, of course ;) ) but the prices have gone up so rapidly that even the marginal examples are becoming more valuable than their separate parts... so I have a sale for it as a complete gun. That hammer is going to be a challenge, but then again, I guess that's why it's called hunting. :D
