I found a local pawn shop as a Smith & Wesson 34-1 with a 4-inch blued barrel. They say it has the original grips with it and it looks like it is in like new condition. Very little. Is the gun only no box or papers and they're asking $499 plus tax, is a good price and would you recommend I buy this gun or look for a different Smith & Wesson 22?

In good shape, that's a bargain. I've seen them sell as you describe for $750.00.

If you don't buy it, lots of folks on this forum will want to know how to contact the seller.

As described, that is an excellent price. My wife and I own several .22/32 Kit Guns, all of them shoot well and we regularly enjoy them at the range. One of them goes with me on hunts, for potting ptarmigan and grouse.

Go get it and then show us pictures!

Yes, it is a good price. However, it is in a pawn shop and if your shop is like the ones around here, a bit of negotiating is in order and maybe even expected. I would try to at least save whatever your tax bite will be, maybe more.

I love pawn shops, I've found many really nice guns in them including my model 34 with 2 inch barrel. Sometimes, but not often, they really don't know what they have.

I bought a 34-1 from a pawn shop about a year ago. $600.00 OTD.
It was in near perfect condition but had been shot. No box or papers.
I sold it a few months later for $600.00 to a private individual.
If you're sure you want that particular mdl I think that's probably a good price.

If I had the option of that one over the model 650 22 mag for $875 I just got I would have opted for the 34.....at anything less the 500 not a bad deal......I keep telling my self anything under $900 for the 650 was a good deal.......it is all relative. How badly do you want the 34?

I bought one for $450 from a guy who brought it to my table at a gun show last year. It was as you described the one you're looking at except it had rubber grips. I picked up a pair of magnas for it ($30) and later sold it to an individual for $750. Ones in nice shape command a better price.

As already said you don't come across these little gems all that often, so see my attachment below.

If you are still arguing with yourself, you don't want it badly enough!

The 4" Kit Guns are simply some of the sweetest .22 revolvers around. Years ago, when I first decided I had to have one, all I could find were the 2" examples. Bought one or two of those before I managed to secure my first 4" Kit Gun. Now I own more than one of each.

If you are going to pass, that's up to you. But, if so, give me the contact info for your pawn shop. I'll have the thing shipped to Alaska and it can join its cousins in my safe. :D

Looks better

Looks a lot better than the pictures with my cell phone take a picture in the dark her room. Blue is about 95 to 98%.

34-1

I had asked him to put my name on it and set it in the back and they did I ended up trading at Ruger Speed six two and three quarter inch snub nose with a bobbed hammer and the Sentinel high standard Deluxe
