Merry Christmas everyone!!

I'm looking at a LNIB 4014 blued with Roy Jinks letter showing 1 0f 550. Includes 3 magazines, spare grip, spare guide rod, factory spare recoil spring. Are these .40's getting collectable yet or is .40 passe? What would you pay for one vs what it is worth? Produced in Feb. 1994. I don't own a .40 cal yet and not sure if I'd just keep it a safe queen or actually shoot it eventually. What's your thoughts on this?

I saw one a few weeks ago at a gun show in Massachusetts. It was also LNIB with everything that shipped from the factory. It was also unfired according to the dealer and it appeared to be so. It was priced at $775.00. I would have gladly purchased it, but the dealer did not want to sell it to an out of state person. I have a 4013 that is an awesome shooter. I would have loved to have added the black version to my collection, and see how it stacked up in the accuracy department.

Value of a NIB or LNIB only applies if you are planning to keep a safe queen in my opinion. Once you take it out and exercise it a bit it becomes a used pistol valued accordingly.
As to collectibility, I seem to remember there were multiple productions of 4014. The initial group was 550.
The initial productions TVD and TVF prefixes were single recoil springs. The later VAE, VBA, etc were dual recoil spring.
I personally like my 4014 and 4054 but I dont think 40SW will ever be really collectible. 4014 Values are probably lower than 3914 in comparable condition. I would probably go $500 for a 4014 in good condition - probably $600 LNIB. But above $700 it would stay where it was especially if i planned to shoot it.
One additional caution - 4014 is Aluminum frame - check inside ramps where barrel lugs slide down. I bought a great looking 4044 “LNIB” only to find ramps were damaged by someone firing hot loads.

I have two of the 4014s, one is in beautiful condition and the other is clearly a shooter.

I am not now, and never have been, a fan of the 40 Smith & Wesson cartridge.

The only reason I own my 4014s and my 4013 is because they were easily convertible into 1014s and 1013s

It is because of this ability to easily convert the firearms over to the 10MM auto cartridge that they tend to bring more money at auction today than typically would be expected from this firearm
