Smith & Wesson 586...

I just wanted to thank Smith & Wesson for the great job they did for me. I am a Deputy for the Sheriff's Dept. as a Prisoner Transport Officer. I wanted my Smith 586 Re-Blued. I called the factory and talked with someone in the shop and he told me it would be about 12 weeks before it was done. I really didn't want to wait that long, but I sent it in anyway. I told them it was my DUTY GUN and I've been on the job for 42 years and still working. From the time I sent it to Smith and got it back (WITH AN ABSOLUTE BEAUTIFUL NEW BLUE ON IT) WAS A MATTER OF 3 WEEKS. I THANK YOU SMITH & WESSON FOR A JOB WELL DONE. THAT'S WHY I LOVE MY SMITH. BY THE WAY, I STILL CARRY A WHEELGUN WITH A CRIMSON SIGHT ON IT ON DUTY AND OFF DUTY I CARRY A SMITH 442-2 WITH A CRIMSON ON IT. YOU JUST CAN'T BEAT A GOOD REVOLVER........................CookE

They did me right when I sent my duty gun in for repairs - one week exactly from the day I sent it to the day I had it back in my hands.

So..... where are the before and after pics of your 586??????

Glad to hear about your good experience. I had recently sent a 617 back for work and was pleasantly surprised by how fast I got it back. If you can post them, I'd be interested in seeing pictures of the re-blued 586.

I still out shoot those AUTO's on qualification day & nights. I believe that I can teach an individual to shoot a wheelgun better that he can shoot his AUTO. You know, it's pretty bad when you go to the Police Academy and go to the range and the rangemaster tells everyone there when they get into the training of the AUTO, THAT THIS PISTOL IS GOING TO FAIL YOU SOMEDAY. IT IS GOING TO JAM, STOVEPIPE ETC.. SO, WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO SPEND MANY HOURS TEACHING YOU HOW TO GET IT UP AND RUNNING AGAIN. TAP, RACK, BANG...........MAYBE. MY OLE' WHEELGUN, "GOD FORBID" IT DOESN'T FIRE..............I JUST PULL THE TRIGGER ONE MORE TIME AND HOPEFULLY THE FIGHT IS OVER. I GUESS AFTER CARRYING A WHEELGUN FOR OVER 42 YEARS AND "PRACTICING WITH IT" IT'S VERY HARD TO BREAK A HABIT LIKE THAT. I CAN STILL DRAW AND FIRE 12 ROUNDS IN 15 SECONDS AND PUT THEM ALL IN THE "X" & "10" RING, FROM THE 7 YARD LINE. SO I GUESS THAT AIN'T TOO BAD FOR AN OLD MAN LIKE ME. I'VE TRIED TO POST PICTURES ON THIS SITE AND I HAVE COME TO THINK IT'S IMPOSSIBLE AND IT CAN'T BE DONE. YOU GUYS THAT CAN DO IT ARE "MIRACLE WORKERS" AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED.....................................................................

CookE ... What ammunition do you use in your 586 ?

I agree with your take on the reliability and comfort that a good S&W revolver gives a person. I shoot thousands of rounds a year in S&W and Glock semiautos and enjoy them but know that they can fail even with the best maintenance and technique. I'm pretty good at correcting malfunctions fairly quickly but prefer the security of revolvers for my home and carry. A friend of mine is retired from S&W and still does some revolver work for them. I tell him he is a dinosaur.

Also, I too have given up on trying to post photos.
