Folks, just ordered 5906 from CDNN. Any advise for polishing her up? I dont want a super "flashy" finish just as close to factory as I can get. I've read here people are using Flitz to Mothers? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I ordered the select so hopefully it will be in the 90-95% range they're claiming.

I use a Scotch brite pad in a taupe color to touch up stainless. Done with light pressure it duplicates the factory matte stainless finish.

This will bring back the bead blasted look? If so I know what I'm buying after work tonight!

Good idea. What # pads did you end up using, 10X? The 3M colors can be confusing.
I have used 3M #7440 medium & #7447 very fine pads for spiffing up motorcycle parts with great success. Just make sure to use the appropriate pad with LIGHT pressure.
I would NOT use the #5440 brown pads, which are too coarse.
Be careful.

Pointinglab,
Your 5906 may not need more than a clean up polishing. The CDNN select is typically in decent shape, with some minor holster wear. Give it a thorough clean up & go shoot it!

Results of the green scotch-brite pad.

Looks great..

Time to go shopping for some Scotchbrite pads.. I'll post some pictures on Friday once I take possesion. It feels like XMas and it's only April.. Living the Dream!

please post pics of the gun when it arrives. I've been sitting on the fence for a while on these CDNN guns. I called them this week to ask about condition on their select guns.

Here is a cdnn 5906 that I went the mother's route since I don't like matte finish. I do not carry it or conceal and it is a range gun. This was not a select condition. Not a mirror finish but it shines pretty good.

Thanks for the tip about CDNN

I ordered both a 5906 and 6906 the day after I read your post. Now I'll get a scotch brite green pad too. They have not arrived yet but my FFL will call me when they come in. I went ahead and paid the extra for 'hand select' so I'm hoping I get something nice. Pix later when I get them cleaned up.

Let us know how you make out. I ordered a 6906 from CDNN and got it Wednesday. I did not pay for the select model, and overall the pistol (although it was very dirty) is in great shape. I did notice some marks on the matte finish in the right light but hard to see otherwise. I am thinking of trying to clean the finish up with scotchbrite, but don't want to make it worse.

I don't know what the description is for the Scotchbrite pad that I have. I just bought the individual pad at an Ace Hardware store. I think it is "fine". Different colors mean different grades. Like I said the one I had best success with is a taupe color. It works really well using light pressure. I cleaned up a 25 year duty 5906 from really worn and scratched to looking very, very good. Too good in fact, a fellow I knew had to have it after I cleaned it up. I never got a chance to shoot it.

I get Scotch Brite pads from a local body shop. They seem to use lots of them. I just asked for a very fine and he gave me grey ones.

CDNN - 5096 Select Update

Finally got to the paperwork piece of things and was able to check out my new baby. First impression... great. well worth the extra money for the select/hand pick. I don't think I'l be needing the scotch pads after all. I think all I'll need to do is clean it up and go have some fun.
I ordered an extra magazine which didnt come with the gun. Do they ship those directly ?
I take possesion on Monday. Will post some pics then. I'm happy. What a hunk of steel... oh, yeah it stainless too.

Here's the Pics of CDNN 5906

Sorry for the delay. I called up SW and they said she was issued to the Puerto Rico PD in 1995. The gun is in great shape externally and even has new Hogue grips. I havent stripped it yet.
The white on the Novak sights are basically gone. And the red paint for safety/decocker on left side is off. Any ideas on how to restore those items would be helpful.
I'm still trying to get used to the decocker.
Hoping to head to range later this week.

Friend,

What combination of Pads and Mother's Mag did you use to get that nice finish?

Just got my 5906 (paid extra for the selection) from CDNN. Very please with the condition of the gun. It has one or two very minor nicks that super fine sandpaper should resolve and a little holster shine. Arrived FEDEX in two days.

I also went with Mother's and A cotton buffing wheel on a bench grinder. I didn't want a "Mirror" like finish, but the entire pistol had small scratches and wear marks. I just buffed out all the imperfections and didn't polish any area too long. Here is what I ended up with.
