I recently acquired a Smith & Wesson 629-3 6”, unfluted cylinder, TT TH WO & red fiber-optic front sight. The revolver also has various proof marks on the cylinder, bottom of the frame and bottom of the barrel. This is the first S&W I’ve owned that has proof marks, so I’m not familiar with them and hoping to gain some knowledge from fellow members. The one that stands out the most is “Wischo”, which I’ve been informed is a German outfit that has since closed. I was told by the gentleman I acquired it from that is was a “Lew Horton (1 of 1200)”. I’ve reached out to Ms. Susan Lorusso to try and confirm, but I have my doubts due to the proof marks. According to the 4th edition catalog, product code 103596 states “Model 629 with 6” full lug barrel and adjustable front sight: For export by European Arms. 500 manufactured, 3/1990”. However, I’m not sure if this is the correct product code for this revolver. I will certainly be requesting a factory letter for more information, but in the meantime I’m hoping some of the fellow forum members could shed some light on this particular revolver.

Liege Belgium proofhouse (smokeless powder a.k.a. Nitro), 1991, inspector "D", and imported by WISCHO (a German distributor).

The proofhouse mark, which looks like a flame over the letter L in cursive script, gets applied to the frame, cylinder and barrel. The other bits just to the barrel.
