Hello Pros, I'm new to the forum. I have been reading threads about 3 days now. Very interesting information here. However, I'm from North Ms. and I want to obtain my CC permit. From what I have been reading, there's a lot of responsibility along with the permit. I have shot a Smith & Wesson BODYGAURD 380 and I really like the feel of it. It also has a cool built in red dot at the touch of your fingertips. Is there any negative comments on this gun or do any of you recommend something different for a first time CC guy?

You might want to search all the threads on the BG380. There are complaints about them and some that have no problems like me, items to look out for will come up on the search in the threads. I have a BG380 with the insight laser the first model. Turning the laser on isn't that simple for me but I don't use it anyhow. They make two models now with one OOP so they had three models basically. One without laser one with Crimson Trace laser and OOP with Insight laser . I haven't had a problem with mine but someone will be on here soon to tell you how bad they are. Never had a problem with mine and would have no problems CCW it. Watch the laser screw.

BG 380 again

BG 380 is a beautiful design and concept, cosmetically so very attractive. There seems to be many positive declarations as well as many negative experiences in single or multiple areas. Based upon my experience, I traded mine in towards the reliable, easy to carry and handle Shield 9. I'm glad I did. I've had no malfunctions and I'm confident it will go bang when I pull the trigger.

I have a 380, but not a BG. I use it when nothing else will work and then I pocket carry it. I much prefer a 9mm and to me the perfect answer is the Shield. While some swear by them, I see no need for a laser on a CCW pistol. Just extra bulk that gets in the way, to me.

The Shield is so easy to carry and conceal I find that I almost never carry the .380

Do some research. A lot of good info about the firearm. Once I had decided on the BG I checked out this forum. Brought the gun home and torn it down remembering all of the experience here.

I carry it every day and so far have had 0 trouble with it.

Good Luck.

I like to shoot the BG380 at the range as often as I can,
but the caveat here is the fact the ammo is expensive
and hard to find! Even on line at most supply stores,
it comes up,"Out Of Stock".

You are doggone right....

There is a lot of responsibility with just owning a gun.

The .380 used to be considered borderline for defensive carry. But modern bullets changed the game and they are now considered effective for close range.

I'm also interested in the shield. I see lots of people prefer it over the BG380 but for the most part, there are not very many complaints. Thank y'all so much for your thoughts. It really made the difference when I was about to purchase it.
