Smith & Wesson Model 320 Revolving Rifle

Hi DWalt:

The Pawn Stars episode you are referring to is Volume 5, Ep. 48 "Stuff It." You can watch it at Amazon. I just watched it last night hoping to learn more about my recently acquired Smith & Wesson Model 320 Revolving Rifle. I wish to have it dated and learn about my guns history. If you or any member have any advice as to how to proceed I would be most appreciative!

Is your 320 the one that just sold at Amoskeag? If not, where did yours come from? Pictures please!

Post pictures and you will get a lot of expert information. A "documented letter" can be obtained from Roy Jinks, Historian at S&W for $50. There is a form to complete and mail a copy is up in the "downloads" section of the header.

A factory historical letter will tell you when & where your RR was shipped and in what configuration it was when shipped. Cost is $50, but worth it to find out the history of your gun. There's a link on this Forum to the application form for a factory letter. Ed.

20" model 320

I have an inherited 20" barrel model 320 that I would like to sell. I have read what I can find on the net about it and everything points to it being very valuable. I am wondering what is the best way for me to get top dollar for it. Can anyone suggest which auction houses I might contact about it? It is a blued gun with the checkered hard plastic grips and detachable stock.

Welcome to the Forum. There is a thread discussing selling options for an antique Schofield that would be helpful for you as well.

I think you should get an appraisal before attempting to sell your 320 RR. These guns sell from low 4 figures to over 5 figures, mostly because of condition, originality, completeness, accessories, serial number, etc., so getting someone to give you the valuation would be important before selling or auctioning. People like David Carroll or David Chicoine come to mind, plus several experts on this forum that might come forward to offer their services.

One of the first things you need to do is obtain a letter from S&W verifying the way it left the factory and where it was shipped and when. This can prove very valuable when trying to sell it. A few clear pictures posted in this Forum will give the experts to at least form an opinion of what range it might be worth. Be sure to include any box, paperwork, tools etc. that accompany it. The condition could vary the value by several thousand dollars.

The pictures help, but they are too small to see anything or tell the actual condition. To get a value, go to the RIA Auctions (Previous Auctions) and look up the prices that 320's actually sold for, and compare the condition to your gun. Roy is currently about 5 months backlogged on letters.

Roy would probably not give you any information over the phone, he has to spend up to several hours to find anything out about any particular gun, researching the record files, they are not computerized. The Customer service at S&W has been known to be able to answer general questions.
