Smith & Wesson Model 46

I have a Smith & Wesson Model 46 in beautiful shape 99% bluing and shoots like a dream, just wondering when the Model 46 came out wasn't sure purchased used with two magazines, takes down easy, cleans from chamber to muzzle.

It was introduced in 1957. Production continued until 1966 or 1968.
Several variations were produced. Lots of info available on line if you need more Model 46 history.

The S&W Model 46 was introduced in 1957 as a lower cost option to the M41. Basically the M46 was a commercial failure because most customers wanted the higher gloss blue finish, checkering and finer overall finish. The M46 was discontinued in 1966.

To clear up some confusion from the above posts, they were last produced in 1968.

The model 46 was produced from 1959 to 1968. It was the model 41 that started in 1957. There are a few variations mainly being the square and round cut slide and three barrel lengths, 5", 5 1/2" and 7".
Put up some pictures for more specific info on your model 46.

Separate note: Due to weakness of slide rails, especially if square cut at juncture at the rails and slide body, DO NOT shoot hot ammo. Stick to CCI/Federal standard velocity ammo, or risk separation of slide rails
