Hi all,

This is my first posting to the Forum. I am a 40 year fan/owner of S&W. Being in recent retirement, I have taken up shooting again after a 20 year absence. Recently purchased a beautiful 586 to replace the one I owned a LONG, LONG time ago.

Questions for any member who might have experience with the Smith & Wesson Model 952-2 9mm Para or the SW1911 Pro Series. I am interested in perhaps buying one and wondered what the opinion is of the Forum members regarding these models. I have always wanted an automatic 1911 frame 9 mm pistol. Love my Browning Belgium Hi-Power but it is a bit small for my large hands.

1) Do you all recommend these models for general target shooting? Is the 6" preferred over the 5" barrel? Am wondering how they might compare to the Colt Series 70 9mm in overall feel and accuracy (another model that I am considering)

2) Any thoughts on a price range for the Model 952-2 9mm Para in excellent condition?

Any comments would be appreciated and would help in my search.

I have both a S&W 952-1 and a Dan Wesson 1911 PM-9 in 9mm. While the 952 has a better trigger than most semi auto's it does not compare with the earlier Model 52-1 (38 Special). I enjoy shooting both with a slight preference for the Dan Wesson product - difficult to explain why.

I have a 952-2 5" and I think that it shoots great! As stated, not quite as good as the 52-2, but really close.

It has the same feel as the 52-2 until it fires and that's when you realize that there is a lot more poop to the 9mm than the 38 pop-gun that the 52-2 shoots.

It fits my hand very well, although my hands are fairly large, they are not really wide. (Think Orangutan hands and you're there.)

I also really enjoy shooting the S&W DK1911 5", it too is as accurate as I have seen, although it is in 45 cal. It fits well all around as it is a full-size 1911. The two-tone part I really like, it just looks cool.
