Hello, I'm new to the form so forgive me if I dont know all about it yet. I am getting a S&W MP 9mm compact next Monday and have never shot one and just wondering if any one that has one could give me some input on them, my wife has a 4006 40 cal. and we like it but don't know much about the mp so any input would be appreciated. Thanks

If this is your first M&P, READ the factory manual cover to cover first.
Then clean and lube the gun per the manual instructions BEFORE shooting. Don't overlube, and don't put oil in the trigger linkage and striker. The spot in the frame that calls for lube is the sear face that contacts the striker--just a small drop!
Dissassemble and clean the magazines (I use CRC silicone spray) and wipe DRY before reassembling.
Now you are ready to go to the range.
Load a magazine (you don't have to load it full, which will be difficult at first).
Lock the slide back using an empty magazine. Insert the loaded magazine, pull the slide back slightly, and release. KEEP FINGER OUT OF TRIGGER GUARD WHEN LOADING.
THE GUN WILL FIRE WHEN TRIGGER IS PRESSED.

Depending on your "method", this may not be an issue...I notice with my 9c that the slide stop is very tight/difficult to activate when the slide is locked OPEN. Many others have experienced this as well and some have even reported damaging their slide stop while trying to actuate. I almost always use the "slingshot" method to get the weapon to battery- when shooting my 9c, I always do- as that is the way I was taught and continue to be taught. I mention this only because it seems to be an issue with many 9c's. In contrast, my full-size MP9 does not have this issue (at least not as noticeable)...not sure why. Check out the M&P Sub-forum- lots of good info.

Hope you like yours after shooting it. I love mine- it has become my favorite compact shooter. I had some FTE (extract) issues early on. Sent it back and had the barrel replaced. Zero problems since. SW's customer service is fantastic. :) Enjoy!
