Wow! That looks perfect, must've been in a time capsule for the last 100 years. An expert will be here soon to turn that serial number into a birth date.

Beautiful revolver! S&W began production of the Model 1891 (3rd Model) in 1891 and made them until 1911. They made over 28,000. So, if you accept a linear production run, it would have shipped late 1891 or 1892. The only way to know more precisely is to request an historian's letter.

Hi.

Not a model og 1891, but New Model #3 S&W SA, first production date is somewhere around 1887.

Very interesting to now when this was maunfactured;=)

New Model #3, .38-44 Target Model, serial no. 1439, would have been shipped around 1896. You should get a factory historical letter for this gun, from Roy Jinks, S&W Factory Historian, as it will verify to whom, when & where the gun was shipped, and it's configuration when shipped. Often these target models can letter to an individual shooter, which can triple the value of the gun. Nice condition gun. Has it been refinished? Ed.
