Smith & Wesson should reprise the 547 9mm "no moon clips necessary" K frame revolver with 3" heavy barrel and round butt. Only this time for the U.S. civilian market with adjustable sights.

A new version of the 940 J frame with 547 style extactor would also be welcome. Or a 9mm version of the 3" full lug barrel adjustable sighted model 60 with model 547 style extractor mechanism.

I use to have a model 25 .45 ACP. I use to have a 940. After working with them, I am not a fan of moon clips. Tried them all. I don't like full moon, half moon, or 1/3 moon.

I like the idea of a good 9mm double action revolver and I think the extractor set up on the 547 is slicker than owl sh*t.

Anyone else agree?

I agree with you especially on the adjustable sight addition. I would also like to see a 4" barrel version. Perhaps configured like a Model 19 with target grips. That would supplement the snub nose version you propose. Coming up with a .40 caliber version also seems like a great idea. I believe that a lot of .40 S&W and 9mm shooters would like to spice up their lives with a little revolver action but don't want to take on reloading yet another caliber.

I would like to know the reason they quit making them. An idea that good shouldn't die unless there was some kind of flaw. It ought to be in stainless and models made for all remless cartridges.

I've been told the reason they quit making them was because of the cost, within the same conversation that was the most expensive revolver Smith and Wesson ever produced.

It's a rather complex design.

I would be happy with a 2" one piece stainless barrel, stainless cylinder, Airweight K frame, round butt, fixed sight, moon clip 9mm. :)

+1...that'd be sweet. They could make mine a Centennial while they were at it ;)
