Was anyone else keeping track of the Bill Davis made SMOLT that went out last night on Gunbroker? Hopefully a forum member got it. I was a bit surprised by the final price though. The GB number was 803858152 for those that did not see it.

Looks like a gun that would be fun to shoot - for whatever reason, I really like the Smolt/Smythons.

Given that current SMOLT conversions run $1500 or more, plus the Smith revolver and Python barrel; and you still don’t have Davis original, $1950 doesn’t seem out of line if you want a SMOLT.

I really want a Smolt, but I'll have to be content with my Bill Davis Puger. Yeah, most call it a Cougar or a Rython, but to me it shall always be a PUGER!

Are there any smiths out there still making these or is it a lost art these days?

Craig Maraviov in Woodland, CA still builds Smolts and Cougers. He's done a few Smolts for me over the years, but I've sold them off. I have the two Cougers he built, as well as a Smolt built on a 2" Model 15 by Marks Kearns. Mark and Craig both worked for Bill Davis Company a number of years ago. The hardest thing nowadays is finding reasonably priced Python barrels.

Recent Cougers built on Security Six Rugers:

And a couple of Smolts built by Craig on a 686 and 19:
