I found this Pre-29 on GB and the listing stated that it was also for sale in the store and could be pulled off GB at any time. I called them immediately and snagged it for three bills under the asking price with no shipping charges or sales tax. I think I did okay! Now, I am waiting on the letter to see if it can help "splain" why an April of 1958 serial number revolver is in an early blue case with a button latch. Any ideas how and does the early case increase the value?

Most likely the case was not original to the revolver. I sure wouldn't complain. The gun is a beauty and the case is quite nice and hard to find. The bottom case liner looks original too.

Great buy!
Yes, the case is all original. I'm hoping that it was made a while before it shipped and S&W was using up some cases.

Dang...that is beautiful!!! Just from what I can tell in the pics, the polished bluing looks to be as nice as I've ever seen on a S&W revolver, in the same league as the old school Colt Python "royal blue" finish! Very nice Coke stocks that appear to be pristine too! Great find! I wouldn't care that much if the pebble case isn't original; it's a very nice pairing with the gun!

Thanks! Believe it or not, there are a few slight imperfections on it that don't show in the pictures. But, then again, it's almost 60 years old.

What I would be hoping for is to find a 5 screw Model 29 in a smooth leatherette case and swap them. Win Win! That may be a little much to ask for, but that's me. ;)

Congratulations on obtaining your beautiful revolver. It looks great and the case is a bonus to your wonderful 44.

Very nice, N frame are my favorite! I don't have any that old and shoot an 8 3/8 barrel and a 3 inch. My 6 inch had a blemish on the barrel from wiping a harsh chemical that damaged the blue. I took it apart, stripped and prepped it . Sent it off for the most beautiful deep blue refinish. So that one I don't shoot any longer.
