I ran some +P rounds through my nickel 539 last week, and what strikes me as funny was the anticlimactic outcome.

I held on for dear life , waiting for the extreme muzzle flip and recoil inherent to +P rounds which never happened. Curious how my S&W defied the laws of physics,I poked around here and discovered the ol girl has a steel frame. Explains a lot.

Now, how rare is this thing?

Here are my "smith brothers" 4566, 539 in the middle and 908. my son and I were just shooting the 539 last week. there is not a more pleasant shooting 9mm.

My wife shoots her nickel plated 539 every time we go to the range. She says that the weight and ergonomically shaped grip cause the gun not to jolt her hands and wrist when she fires it. It is her prize and not for sale at any cost. As I understand it, the 539 models are scarce but not really rare but you will really have to look if you want one.
