So I bought a .380......

Just picked up my first .380 in a long time. The small micro guns that are all the rage today don't really appeal, so I found a blued, aluminum frame Sig P232 with four mags. Good choice? Got a box of 95gr ball FMJ ammo, as I've heard hollow points are really all that effective in this caliber. I love the sleek lines and light weight; just hope it shoots as well as most Sigs seem too. What do y'all think; pretty good decision on a relatively easily concealable auto? Gonna try to teach the girlfriend on this one when she's ready to move to centerfire after enough training on her Walther P22.

You did good. Sig makes a fine little .380. I do shoot hollow points in my little DB380. CorBon Powerballs or PMC Starfires and the like. I really don't know if it makes a difference or not.
I didn't care for the .380 round either, until I bought my little 380. It can be carried just about any time and can quickly be deployed and fired.

Use it in good health. I liked my P232 least of all the SIG-Sauers I've ever owned, but that doesn't mean that yours won't be dandy and work great for you in the role you envision for it.

Yeah you did good!! The little SIG is a nice .380, one of which I've had a hankering for. Much like my Makarov, they carry easy and shoot very accurately. They make great back-up guns to something bigger, or as a primary in hot weather or formal attire.
Ammo choices; as fir as I'm concerned I'll take the DPX round from Cor-Bon first followed by Power-Ball and then ball. My Mak is regularly loaded with ball ammo or XTPs
The light weight of the pistol might surprise you with the recoil, but it's nothing you can't get used too with practice, also watch for "slide bite"! Similar to the Walther (prior to Smiths redesign) the slide might slice your hand just above the thumbs joint, but this usually happens to those of us with big hands. Dale

I bought a two tone P232 back in November and really like it and find it very accurate - the wife hasn't fired it yet because of our lousy weather this winter/spring but I know she will love it since it has such light recoil. Haven't decided about the mag release yet - haven't had any problem using it but it is something you have to think about since it's location is different than everything else I own. I too use the Cor Bon DPX rounds in JHP. Hope you like yours as much as I like mine. Good looking guns and built very well. Not many holsters available on the shelves around these parts - everyone seems to stock more for Glocks in this area - but I have had good luck finding some on line, just don't get the opportunity to touch and feel them first. Yeah, it's really not a pocket gun, so I need to find some good left handed leather. I used it tonight in a nylon belly band I have, and it was comfortable enough, but I really would like to have a decent belt holster of some sort.

Assuming you have a stainless side on a .380: I've pretty much cured "slide bite" on a couple of PPK's. Take a fine little file (they're called knife files) and hit the lower outer edge of the slide on both sides using a 45 degree angle. All you're trying to accomplish is taking that knife edge off. Run your thumb over that edge before you start and give that edge a couple swipes with the file. Then test the edge again with a thumb. You won't even notice the small angle change visibly, but it makes quite a difference with damage to the web of your hand.

I have the 230, fine pistol, but as they said it will bite if you have big hands.

I've never had the slide bite problem; I just have average sized mitts. My gun is the blued version, but the two tone would be really neat for me; has the best of both worlds with a stainless slide and alloy frame.
