so is it wrong to drink a Mosel Riesling wine out of a Jack Daniels glass? the only other glasses that I have are 1/2 and 1 liter bier steins.

I haven't had a glass of wine in quite a few years and it tasted pretty good

I have specific glasses for Mosel and Rhine Riesling, and they're shaped to transmit the bouquet well. And to reflect the culture. These have thick green stems, grooved.

You can possibly find correct glasses? If not, just buy conventional wine glasses, as you'd use for other white wines.

Which Mosel did you drink? Those bottled along the Mittel-Mosel by the Prum & Erben families tend to be the best.

If you drank Bernkasteler Doctor from the wrong glass, you have indeed committed an offense...of some sort! Ditto for really fine Wehlener-Sonnenuhr, etc.

I like these best in Late Harvest (Spatlese) grade. Auslese and sweeter grades are not for drinking with food. Just by themselves or maybe with fruit.

the winery was from Bernkastel and the bottle is in the trash. it did have a screw on cap which is probably a good thing since the only cork screw I have is on a SAK and I would probably screw it up. I will have to get another bottle.

I think that everybody gets a little hung up on the Rhine river wines which are very good. the wines from along the Mosel are very good as well. if you ever get there Bernkastel and Cochem are very good places to visit.

for the serious wine drinker another place to go is the wine festival at Bad Durkheim

Did you know that Gen. Eisenhower was presented with a couple of cases of Bernkasteler Doctor following WW II? Thos. Jefferson liked wines from there and from Brauneberg.

I didn't know that "wine glass" police existed! Just don't let them in. If all else fails, paper cups work great.

at the wine fest at Bad Durkheim they don't worry about the type of glass. wine is served tall water glasses fill almost to the top.

Bad Durkheim is about halfway between "K" town and Mannheim

Half Pint (8 oz or 1 cup) jelly jars are one of the most useful devises on the planet! I loved when someone moved out of an apartment and left a box of assorted canning jars under the kitchen sink!

Since I always ran the dishwasher when checking the apartment to get it ready for the next customer, I'd just run them through before I took them home. The wife used the pint and quart jars for preserves and green beans! But she never go to see the half pint size! They were hidden away in my shop for storage of "The Sacred Loose Screws" of which maintenance men always had in their pockets!

Now that I'm semi-retired maybe we should use them for a daily wine ration! I am sure she would agree to that!

Instead of pondering this trivia, we should consider important issues, such as, Is it wrong to take a lawyer out on a first date to a punk rock concert?

Would someone who actually knows what quality German wine glasses look like please post photos? And photos of fine German wines, not of Zeller Schwarze Katz or Liebfraumilch...

American Riesling can be very good white wine, but we lack the slaty soil and rivers and the precise climate to get Riesling that tastes like German Riesling.

A hint: read German wine labels carefully. Look for words like Qualitatswein mit Pradikat. That should at least get you a quality table wine of superior attributes.

Of course, it's better to know which vineyards make the best wine. The State Domains usually do well, and have included such estates as Schloss Vollrads in the Rheingau.
