I use two lubricants for my M&P 15-Sport. To protect metal surfaces, even the treated surfaces, use a light coat of Breakfree CLP. It's always done the job. I'll give the bolt a quick wipe, run a lightly moistened patch in the chamber and barrel. I lightly moisten a cotton swab and clean/lube the trigger group.

For lubricating the BCG rails & bolt, I use a very thin coat of hi-temp automotive wheel bearing grease. I apply the grease similar to the method shown in this video:

^Lubing starts at 3:00. This guy is a blow-hard.

By posting a reference to this video, I'm not vetting nor implying that James Yeager is a good source for any training, weapons manipulation, or anything.

Google his name, and you'll see why.

Mobil1 for my ARs. 4 days through the carbine courses in the dusty desert in Nevada....Mobil1 doesn't let me down. :D

I use Hoppe's 9 gun oil and never had a problem with it.

breakfree clp for basic lube and pro-gold for high load or high friction areas.

AMSOIL 5W-30 and Riggs gun grease on the rails.

Gunzilla. No chemicals. Made from plants. No harsh smells. Cleans, lubes aaaand, wait for it__________if you're lost in the dessert, you can drink it.

I use the red grease as well on the BCG. I also have used the pro gold grease and it worked just as well during prolonged shooting. As Japes said despite the questionability of the TR guy's record his method works well and doesnt burn or sling off, cleanup is easy. Use a very light coat. I'd like to try the same methodology with Frog as I heard it works really well too......

Well I use 5w30 in My Dodge and My Denali so that is what I picked up. Too many people whose opinions I value use it so I am now a Mobil 1 kinda guy.

HA! Thats funny I never considered engine oil as a lube but it makes sense! A lot cheaper to buy in the long run to.
