I know both later were replacement actors on the then--tiring series.

I don't remember either of these guys from Rawhide.
I might have gone into one of my non- tv phases.
But I remember them from many other TV shows and movies.

Sheb Wooley played Pete Nolan during the whole run of Rawhide. He also appeared in the movies Giant, High Noon, The Outlaw Josey Wales and others.

He was a real Oklahoma cowboy and rodeo rider. He is also remembered for his hit song "Purple People Eater" in the '50s. He sang spoofs of famous country song under the name Ben Colder.

Slight correction, he left in the middle of season 4, had an episode "reunion" then Charles Gray took over as scout for about a full season. Gray is out and now Quince is scout. I just started season 6. "Sheb" was asked to scout for the Cavalry.

There are plenty of Stockmen and Cattle in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Lots or rodeo cowboys as well. We border States get plenty of spillover.

I didnt have time to be coherent yesterday, but I noticed the "Rawhide" powers-that-be--used quite a few out-of-word tv personalities in many episodes. For instance-a l;ate season 5 or early season 6 episode--had Elizabeth Montgomery (Samantha Stevens of: Bewitched--fame) was in one with Gene Evans and L.Q. Jones. Bewitched must have already been cancelled? or on hiatus? when she did this episode. Anyway, there were several "references" to the Witch world--in that episode--and Eric Fleming-Clint Eastwood--must have had a difficult time making that episode-trying to keep a strait face when interacting with Montgomery.

An episode I just watched last night--had Samantha's 1st hubby in it--along with Jeannie. Dick York-basically stole-the rights to their herd-selling it for a mere $20,000--and along the way-scamming others on various deeds. Jeannie (Barbara Eden) and Clint Eastwood's interaction--priceless. I also saw an episode with "Darren's" mother in it-not long ago.

Another very good episode had Russell Johnson (the Professor of Gilligan's Island) in it.
