Some people shouldn't be allowed to go outdoors.

Many years back a man named Mas Oyama, fought empty handed a large bull and won the fight.. He even knocked of half of the bulls one horn. Actually he fought many bulls and won!

Masutatsu Ōyama, (AKA Mas Oyama), started Kyokushin Karate, considered the first style of full contact karate.

Do a search if you like there is a lot about him out there, the bull fight is well documented. He died in 1994 and was 5'8''in height!

During my last rip to Yellowstone, there was this Japanese tourist trying to get his wife and two kids in the perfect position next to a buffalo calf. I didn't know where the calves mother was but I didn't stay around to see if she appeared!

While the guy in the OP is obviously a drunken idiot, I seriously doubt anyone here would actually stand by and watch him be killed by a wild animal, even if he did provoke the animal. If they would, then the people here aren't who I've always believed them to be.

How many here can honestly say they haven't done something stupidly dangerous when consuming alcohol? Like operating a motor vehicle? Picking a fight? Or any number of other things that could have got them killed - and even maybe killed someone else in the process?

I know I can't...

Sorry to disappoint you BC38, but it would be real hard for me to defend this idiot from himself at the expense of a bear that wasn't looking for trouble. I am sincerely glad that the bear beat a retreat instead of taking out the trash, so to speak, because if he had attacked that idiot the bear would have been the one who would have also been put down even though he was provoked. And I bet the idiot won't pay the $4000 fine but rather spend 30 days in the crossbar hotel instead. I think the judge let him off too lightly myself; should have been $4000 and 6 months in jail at least.

Who knows what this idiot will do next when he is skunk faced drunk in the future. Hopefully he doesn't take out any innocents when he does something stupid again.

I am with you even if I was not a crotchety old fart. If I see a child or someone like Blaster from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome with the mind of a child I will do anything I can to help them if they are in danger.

Your last paragraph sums it up for me. You read the article and look at the pictures this goof was taking chances and risking not only his life but there is another person in the picture and who knows how many others on the scene.

He was not merely being stupid with his life but with the safety and lives of others. That is beyond merely pulling a dumb stunt and exhibiting stupidity. That is putting others where they can be injured, maimed, crippled and possibly just dead.

I wouldn't bet money on that if I were you.

If they would, then the people here aren't who I've always believed them to be.

We might try not to, but all of us here assign values, characteristics, and morals to other forum members. We make assessments in our minds on their intelligence or lack of it. We may actually decide whether we like them or not.

You talk about people here who might not be who you've "always believed them to be." Fact is, you're making judgements on people you don't know and will likely never meet (unless you're in the SWCA the NRA and go to meetings and symposiums). Everyone here is anonymous unless you've made a deliberate effort to contact them and get to know them. Chances are, you don't know what any forum member here is like in real life.

Here's an example. I won't say his screen name or his real name. Most folks thought he was an okay guy. And maybe he was, for the most part. He seemed fairly knowledgeable about some things. Posted here pretty often. Yep, an okay guy. Then one evening at dinner time, he murders his wife in front of the children. He's now doing twenty-to-forty in the slammer. Older forum members will probably know who I'm talking about. He's actually still listed as an active member here, and his posts are still live.

Just goes to show...no one has to be who anyone else thinks they are...especially on an Internet forum.

I'll go out on a limb here and take a wild guess he didn't down a fifth of tequila beforehand.

I have to agree with you. Besides, by the time I'd decided if I wanted to help or not, it would have probably already been too late. Oh, well...

I think the judge let him off too lightly myself; should have been $4000 and 6 months in jail at least.

Agreed.

Let him work off the $4K making license tags while he's in the pokey.

Who knows what this idiot will do next when he is skunk faced drunk in the future. Hopefully he doesn't take out any innocents when he does something stupid again.

That's well said, and needed to be said. There are people who'd be feeling sorry for him if the bear had got ahold of him, but the guy's already known as a repeat offender. It's probably just a matter of time before he really screws up. He came pretty close this time.

...this goof was taking chances and risking not only his life but there is another person in the picture and who knows how many others on the scene.

"Goof" is a really polite term for him. If people like him want to kill themselves, let them do it in private. Or go jump off a bridge or something. Don't involve me or anyone else who happens to be in the vicinity.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone...
Like I said, how many here can honestly say they have never done something stupid that endangered themselves and possibly others?
Thankfully stupidity isn't a capital offense. Intelligence is a gift, not something any of us has earned. Likewise stupidity is a curse that some are born with.
Personally I place the value of even the stupidest human above that of any animal, no exceptions. Apparently some here don't. To me that's kinda sad, especially when I see some of those same people bemoaning the fact that life is considered cheap every time there is a mass shooting.
I guess both situations just afford some people an opportunity to express their own feelings of superiority.

I don't fix stupid.

I let that take care of itself.

I know of only two guys who could pull off that stunt:

Bears Belly, an Arikara who reportedly slew three grizzlies (separately) in single combat armed only with a knife.

Rain in the Face, a Hunkpapa Lakhota who most certainly didn't get those claws he's wearing at Woolworth's.

"The only difference between a Mule and a fool is there ears!"

No, the difference here is that while mules may look stupid to the untrained eye, they're really smart animals.

The guy wanting to fight the bear not only looks stupid, he is stupid.
