Some People shouldn't be allowed to have dogs

This little guy came into our lives on July 6th. He had no tags, and no microchip. He found shade on our porch, and water from our fountain before we put a bowl of water out for him and some food. He was matted, dirty, hungry, and wearing a choke collar about 3x as big as a dog his size (37.5 lbs.) would need.

After following the city's process of trying to find his former owner he was declared ours 10 days later. We had him chipped, and set-up a vet appointment for check-up, tests, and shots. Figured that he is probably about 5 years old.

Vet called Tuesday, and he tested positive for heartworm. He went in yesterday for more tests, x-rays, and to start meds. Hoping to hear soon from the vet concerning stage of disease. Also hoping that he is not beyond stage 2, and will have a good recovery.

We are going to do what we can to get him well. He has stolen our hearts, it was ordained that he would find us to help heal his. He shows signs of being abused in the past, and I have to continually remind him that we don't hit in our house.

That is what I am reading as well. Glad to hear of your good outcome.

We actually had to cancel a grooming appointment for him yesterday in order for him to see the vet. But, they decided to help us out and gave him a good bath and trimmed his nails between his tests and x-rays.

It is a little more than 2.5 years since our last fur baby left us as a result of bone cancer. It took this long for us to be ready to welcome another "good boy" into our home.

We truly have been blessed by God in far too many ways to recount. I am reminded of what Solomon said in Proverbs 12:10 - "Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel."

DOGS

We acquired a Boston Terrier almost a year ago and she is now doing fine. Yes, some people should not be allowed pets period. Our Ex daughter-in-law kept 'Willow' in a kennel all day while at work. Then she was going to take her to the pound just to get at my son who was devastated to find out she was cheating on him. She set a fire in the hall upstairs while he was sleeping and if Willow had not barked and woke him up its hard tell how that would of played out. He put the fire out, called 911 and moved out with us. Funny, in 25 years we were never comfortable around her at any time. She tried to retain the dog when he moved out under LEO supervision and he told them he WAS taking the dog and to try and stop him would create a big problem. They let the dog go and she has been with us almost a year. At first, all she tried to do was get out and escape-- from being caged up all the time-- She was also under weight and showed signs of abuse. I keep telling her what a good dog she is and that no one is going to hurt her here. She has come off it somewhat but is still a bit skittish at times. I have no use for people who abuse animals in any way. It is really amazing how hateful some people can be. Negelct is ALSO a form of abuse. They also had a Pug that died from being left outside in the heat. Now Virginia has laws about leaving dogs out with no water, shelter, and tied up longer that I think a half hour or so. These people should be horse whipped.

I have a rescue and she's my constant companion, will not leave my side ! She has the life of Riley!
Health wise I hope everything turns out ok with him and from the looks I'm sure it will!

I follow several rescue groups on Facebook, some of the horrors are unbelievable, especially with Pitbull type dogs. Until this month in Iowa it was practically impossible to charge anyone with cruelty, even then was only a misdemeanor charge. Thankfully that has changed and have seen a few being charged with felonies.

I'm not sure that he had seen a vet in a long, long time. He is neutered, but that might have been soon after he was born, and possibly before he ended up with his last owners. The law here mandates that all dogs and cats must be microchipped, and he didn't have one. Not knowing if or when he had last received shots, we had him receive the whole series: rabies, distemper, parvo, bortella, etc. as well as started him on heartworm preventative and flea-tick treatment.

I think that he probably got spooked from fireworks and ran away. During his time on the streets he had probably been lying under cars since he had some motor oil in his coat. The attached picture was taken two days after we found him, and you can still see some of the evidence. We bathed him using Dawn right after that picture, and also have given him a good brushing every other day. His coat is looking much better.

This is his home now, and we take care of our family. I tell him that if I can spend exorbitant amounts keeping my wife alive (kidney transplant, expensive meds, etc.), that he doesn't have to worry that we will do what is best for him.

I have had dogs ever since I was a Toddler. Somehow Dogs like me and feel safe around me. One of my American Legion Members has a service dog. At the last meeting I left and for some reason the service dog followed behind without my knowledge. I opened my car door and the dog jumped in, sat on the passenger seat and wouldn't leave ? I went back in the hall and ask the owner if he wanted his dog to go home with me ? He came out to my car and the dog would not leave by his voice command. He finally got the dog to go with him. That is the first time the dog left his side. NOW I have a cat that appeared out of no where and has adopted me. Appears that it was someone's pet and was dumped in the woods near my house. I am not a "cat person". I tried to ignore the cat for a couple days and then went "Wimp" gave it some water, then food, and now food and milk. This cat had a litter of kittens. I found homes for the kittens and now the cat is at the Vet getting checked out as it appears that I am now a "Cat Person" whether I have a choice or not.

Our Chihuahua-Yorkie had advanced heartworms. We rescued her from the shelter at 13. She beat the worms and is one sassy hand full now!
