Some Thing Make You Want To Cry

The extractor push rod looks pristine!

Dale
And the slots on all the screws look straight / not mangled. I wonder if it hasn't been apart since it left the factory!

Please beg him to not disassemble it without proper knowledge and gunsmith screwdrivers!

It looks like it was quite nice ...

... before nitwits stored it under a carport for 15 years.

That's the way I felt when I went over to look at a Win 61.
It was laying on the dining table in an unzipped sheep lined case.
The upper side was high 90s guarantee!
When I Picked it up my heart sank and stomach turned.
It was heavy pitted end to end.
Apparently it had been stored laying down zipped up in the sheep wool lined case.

Fun project.

1) Take the stocks off and give it a 3 day Kroil bath (submerged).

2) Remove from the container and gently rub the wet revolver with a soft cotton/microfiber cloth.

3) Another 2 day bath in Marvel Mystery Oil (submerged).

4) Remove from the container and drip dry most of the oil.

5) Fully wipe the revolver down and do a regular cleaning with whatever you use (CLP, Hoppe's, etc...)

6) Put the stocks back on (after cleaning the wood).

7) Enjoy

So long as it functions would Ford's take a gun in that condition and refinish it?

Yes------and never mind if it functions or not, they can tend to the functioning too if need be-----although I get the impression they'd rather not fool with that end of the business.

And a word (or two---or six or eight) for you Turnbull fans: As true Turnbull aficionados, you most certainly should know by now Turnbull does not work on S&W's---hasn't for years.

What a find!

I search everyday for one like that. A perfect project TL that looks to be an easy return to duty, Powder rust with limited exposure to moisture as summertime in a garage in Texas (130+ degree temps or similar climates)or just one step above "slow rust bluing". Clean up as discussed along with a light oil and 4-0 brass wool to the finish. Furnish pics when finished to obtain :bragging rights:!

I sent the owner a message earlier to get more info. He is working out of town until Thanksgiving so he has only seen the pictures his wife sent him. She got it for yard sale price since it was just a piece of junk. Why can't I be so lucky. He's going to contact me when he gets back so I can look at it. I'll try to buy it if he's interested in parting with it.

Given the tall front sight and the butt swivel, along with the 1917 Army stocks, I would not be at all surprised to find it is a .455.

Alan I agree, especially looking at the narrow cyl headspace.

Unfortunately it has been refinished....extremely unfortunate that it was done by Mother Nature using the condensation method!

Oh sure, I know the 6-1/2 inch was offered on other TLs. That's why I said a "clue" not "proof". :)
